Gentlemen, here you have it: The public has spoken. The comments to the post on this matter favor the ARRL/REACT accord. It is decisive. The comments not only make it extremely clear
that the majority of hams today started with CB, but also express extremely strong leadership and polished political skill on the
part of the president of the ARRL, Jim Haynie, W5JBP.
Both the comments and the polls here at qrz.com bear witness to the fact that Jim Haynie and the leadership at the ARRL have been aware of this very same preponderance of opinion in both ARRL and REACT long before any of us. And Jim has implemented this very skillfully. But whether one agrees with this particular implementation of opinion is not the point.
I myself have not agreed with everything that Jim has ever done. This is unarguably a testament to his ability to effectively and creditably represent the interests of the U.S. Amateur Radio population at the World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC) in 2003.
It is well documented that Amateur Radio as a hobby is certainly not on the ascendancy. At the very least we need to strengthen our position in the face of ever increasing demands for our spectrum by the big money people of the Communications lobby groups. And we all need to work to strengthen, not weaken our existing prerogatives for the use of radio spectrum. That is point. ...de N4INU...."
