wa0auu Ernie Martin (leewalt@powerbank.net) writes "The Tri-State Amateur Radio Club, Inc. is a group of volunteers and we, like so many others, do search and rescue and emergency communications work. We work with 12 search dog teams and two dive teams and our emergency communications van has been used many times in the tri state area for emergency work.

As you know, we get no Federal or State or local tax money to help us do the work we do, we raise the money we need. For the past several year, as long as Cresco, Iowa has had a car show, we have been there selling popcorn, snow cones and hot dogs or hamburgers.

The city of Cresco has a new director for the chamber now, we have been told, that because it is a chamber sponsored event, we can no longer be there with burgers. The chamber saw how well we did with them last years and now they are going to sell them.

I talked with an attorney about this and it IS their right to say who can be there with what the question is WHY would they want to cut our income by 50 percent? The next time we are our looking for a lost child, it could be theirs.

What would you do, please e-mail me at leewalt@powerbank.net and tell us what you think we should do? We sure hate to just turn over and play dead. The attorney told us that if we show up with anything the chamber has not given us their ok on, we could be arrested for trespassing! We have worked so long and so hard for this town and then the chamber does this!

What do you think? Take a look at our web page (http://www.qsl.net/w0cvj), go to
