QRZ is proud to announce our new Online Swapmeet pages. #These new pages have been designed to provide a more leisurely #reading and browsing experience that places up to 20 listings on every page. #In addition, they're a lot faster to pull up.

These new pages are in addition to our regular swap listings which have retained all of the old features that folks have come to appreciate. #

Want to check them out? #Just click on any of the swapmeet ads shown on the QRZ home page, in the right hand column.

Enjoy!

How do I get the "old" features? If I click on "Online Swapmeet" I get the "new" formatting which 1) won't scroll down with the space bar or page down key nor 2) will it obey the page up key.

As my boss if fond of saying "A 'Better' design is the enemy of the 'good' design, so there comes a time to shoot the engineer and stay with the bugs you know."

Rich, you know where you are, but your mouse does not! Just click once anywhere in an ad, and then page down/page up and space bar will work as expected.

I really love the extra ads. Especially the flashy ones that change all the time. It gives you the sense you're looking at pressies under a xmas tree with flashing lights. I'm just glad the same listings can be found at other sites with no obtrusive ads.

There are 5 ads flashing on the left hand side while I'm typing this. It's starting to look cheesy. I have no problem with advertisement, as long as it's kept tasteful. Yes, it works fine to attract attention to an ad when it changes, but not when 5 are flashing like crazy. Then it simply becomes an annoyance, with no incentive to click on them.

For a site that proudly and eagerly supports the hobby at no charge to the user,I applaud the continuing efforts to make this sire more user friendly.I realy like the new feature in Swapmeet.Dave, AE8U

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I'm afraid KR1ST is right about the ads... The blinking on and off just distracts me. Other than that I think this is a good way to go.

Newer web browsers, such as Netscape 7.0, have a configuration option that allows you to disable the blinking GIF images. I have mine set so that it sequences once, then halts on the last image in the sequence.

Unfortunately, it only works on the animated GIF files. Moving images generated by Java or other methods will continue to annoy the user.

Fred,
Nice graphical layout on the Swap pages. Very nice addition. Very user friendly. Wish we could have kept the "quick jump" dropdown though. Keep up the good work.

Wonderfull, BUT is there a way to just get the old Ad Header?
For me it is quicker to just see what is for sale then click on the Ad I wish to see for full details.

Is it me? How do you search for stuff? Used to see a button for that but, I don't see one anymore?

Did I find an "undocumented feature"?? I cannot find the TOP item for sale... When I click on the TOP ITEM, I get the next screen with ALL the stuff listed - even those that I have no interest, but not the TOP one, that in this case, WAS my interest.

This has been happening all day, so it was not just this last post.

Is there a toggle to be able to go to the "classic" view?

Oh, as for blinking banners, I do not see them when something flashes, I leave that page. Any webmaster that turns these things on needs to go back to CIW school... flashing banners are right up there with non web safe colors, both basic things not to do!

The new online swapmeet page looks fine; what's everyone complaining about? It works fine.

I don't suppose we can somehow distort this into a CW vs. no code issue? (Except there ARE a lot of keys and paddles being dumped there!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I'll try again! How do you perform a search function? I do not see any option to perform a search?

I liked it when it took me right to the Ad I was clicking on, not to the page to make me scroll down and find it.

Great stuff, Fred.

However, the blinking/animated ads get really old and annoying.
Please get rid of them. They give me a headache (and waste cpu
cycles).

It really needs a search mechanism. Search in item titles. Search in item body text content.

Thanks.

javascript:emoticon('http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif')I thought my browser was broken. Then I noticed the news header (I normally just
look at the list of items for sale on the front page and right
click the ones I'm interested in to open the single ad in a
new page.

I didn't read any further than the first page of replies on
the subject here, and it appears that I am in the minority.
I like to "right click" an ad and bring it up in it's "own"
new browser page. What happens now is that it opens up
an entire page of ads, and I have to scroll down to locate
the single ad I'm looking for. I don't like the new format, I prefer the old one. But I guess I'm stuck with the "new look". I may wind up discouraged enough to quit shopping here if I can't get back to the "old" look. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

hi fred. i prefer the "classic" look, and operation.
too many "flashys" for me. they give me a headache.
i would rather scroll down the list and read the ad that interests me.
with all the ads and open listings, this looks like one
of those "Home For Sale" books you find in the grocery.

We can still select whichever format appeals to us. #As Fred's original announcement stated, "These new pages are in addition to our regular swap listings which have retained all of the old features that folks have come to appreciate."

Choose the "old" format by clicking on the blue [MAIN INDEX] button at the top of this page, then pick the forum you want from the list on the "QRZ Site Map & Index".

Choose the "new" format by clicking any Swap Meet item listed on the right-hand side of the Home Page.

Fred, thanks for giving us a way to quickly scan the full text of recent Swap Meet listings. #73

A quick update for everyone...

I have changed the code so that when you click on
an item on the main page, the list will go to that
item.

In addition, I have added a "Search" button at the
top of the page that takes users to the general
forum index where all manner of searches are
supported.

cheers,

Fellas,
There is an easy fix for the flashing ads. Just hit the Escape key while viewing the page and it will stop the flashing. Now this only works for that one page(in other words, you would have to hit Esc on each page that you wanted to stop the flashing), but it will definitely stop them. I know for a fact that this works in MS Internet Explorer - I do not know if it works in Netscape or other types of browsers. I hope this helps...
