Take a look at page 43, September 2003 PC WORLD. All it took was a quick e-mail (about 3 minutes to compose and send).

Send letters to your local newspaper, to any computer rags you may subscribe to, and even to your local power company's newsletter if they publish one. E-mail makes it easy. The big BPL lobby hast'nt done much to promote BPL to the general public just yet. Let's beat them to the draw, and call the public's attention to why this is such crappy technology, before the BPL lobby begins its inevitable disinformation propaganda campaign.

If one active ham in 10 managed to get a letter published, the news media would pick up on it, and BPL would already have a black eye in the mind of the public before the first ads are released.

Don't put a lot of emphasis on the ham radio issue. #Talk police, fire, military, aviation, national security, radio astronomy, etc., then maybe a quick mention: incidentally, ham radio too.

Don,

FYI

A bit off topic, but somewhat relevent.

From the AMA website
Power Line Service (BPL)
(Added 8/08/03)

The Federal Communications Commission has launched an inquiry into the provision of broadband services over power lines. This service would provide users with the ability to connect to broadband services (such as the Internet) by simply plugging a BPL device into an electrical outlet.

While AMA realizes the potential for such a system we are concerned that there may be an interference issue for users of radio control systems. BPL would utilize frequencies in the 1.8 MHz to 80 MHz range. AMA is currently studying this issue to determine the affect this could have on our membership, and will be filing a reply comment with the FCC shortly. Depending on the outcome of this study further action by the AMA membership may be requested.
