When you shop for a new HF rig like a Icom 706MK11G, you look around for the best price. First thing you would do is go to the Icom web site and look for any rebates.

I looked under specials and they had a good rebate going on for this radio. There was $150.00 off the price and it also said "Take an additional $150.00 off at the counter, no coupons needed".

Well that sounded good to me, EXCEPT, neither of two national
retailers would honor the additional off, even though
it was advertised on Icom's website.
I called Icom and they indicated that they had
"[made a mistake in the wording of the the ad]".

Go to the site guys and ask, how can it be written wrong
when it says, "Take a EXTRA $150.00 off!"

Don't belevie everything you read no matter if it is from a major company

Having known and hung around the major retailers for years,
I sometimes wonder how they stay in business. They set up
a nice downtown radio store where hams can come in and twist
the knobs and play with all the newest gear - before going
out on the internet and buying via mail order to get a cheaper
price and no sales tax.

It would surprise you to learn that most of these stores
don't earn any profit from popular radios like the IC-706 MKIIG.
There simply isn't any room to make money on them. Most of
these stores stay alive selling books, antennas, accessories,
and the like where decent profit margins still exist.

The next time a retail store closes in your area (if
you're lucky enough to still have one), ask yourself
whether this
will help or hurt ham radio overall, and why you thought it
necessary to save $50 on that last $1000 radio you bought
by not shopping there.
