View Full Version : JAILBREAK!!!

WA6MHZ

right around Midnight or so, the Cats staged a Jailbreak when the careless wife didn't close the back door tightly. They pushed and pushed, and finally it was open, and the cats were FREE!!!

Phoebe hung around the house, and WA6BEN found her this morning

But Penny has a Wanderlust and Wild Heart, so she decided to ecplore the world she has never known. She hasn't been out of the house before.

We were all in a Panic when she was discovered missing, as she doesn't have a collar on (We couldn't find one she would keep on), and she is an all black cat.

I looked around the yard for her, to no avail, so I decided to walk around the block to look. Now, that is a tremendous TREK for me, but half way around, I saw her. I called and meow to her, but cats don't come when called. She just looked at me and ran across the street. I followed her as much as I could, but I didn't dare walk into some unknown neighbors gated yard. Might be a dog or I could be SHOT for tresspassing!

I was about 50 ft from her, and meowed for her. She just looked, and decided she wanted to explore some more, and took off, to parts unknown.

I don't know if she knows where our house is, and will come home someday.

She has no idea about Coyotes, which are all over the neighborhood looking for a cat just like her.

So, don't know if Penny will come home.

Mew. Penny, I miss U! Atleast Phoebe is back safe.

I will say a prayer for her;
She will come back, Cats have a good sense of direction.
Leave a little food out for her she will smell it and be attracted to it.

Have you had your cats RFI-chipped? That would speed their return if found and turned into an animal shelter.

I think I would pay an SX-88 to see Pat out meowing in the street!

As spoiled rotten as you have her she'll be back the first time she wants a snack. Cats are loyal that away.

Remember Pat that people don't OWN cats - cats will live wherever they feel they will get the best 'deal'.

I have never believed in keeping cats in the house, with all the problems of litter boxes and 'escaping' from time to time when the door gets left open - they are naturally very inquisitive creatures so will get out at every opportunity.

I have had lots of cats in the last 40 years and they have always been encouraged to go out to 'do their business'.

Although I suspect it wouldn't be very practical where you are, cos of the coyotes and things in the wild, but I have always fitted a cat-flap so the cats can come and go as they please.

Some of my cats have gone no further than the nearest patch of land to scratch a hole in for a toilet, but some of them have wandered around the neighbourhood surveying their surroundings, even following us around the village for a walk like a dog would do, if they are well fed at home then they ALWAYS return at mealtimes.

I have never agreed with collars for cats as they could get trapped in a tree or something, I have know of cats that got strangled by their collars.

If you really want a little furry house pet then you have to put up with the cat-lit problem (although you seem to have your celibate wife trained to deal with that aspect), and of course you're bound to get the odd escape and subsequent worrying.

Remember a cat is a wild animal by nature and should be allowed a certain amount of freedom - even to chase and kill birds occasionally.

My current cat is approaching 20 years old and is very contented with his lot.

Penny had a better attitude than Phoebe. While she wasn't quite as personable, she would come up sometimes for petting and liked to Knead, even though she was an adult cat. Penny liked QueasyDilla Cheese more than Phoebe, and was always there for all she could eat, as she did last night shortly before she made the BREAK. Penny would never come when I called her, while Phoebe almost always does. I have to "meow" for her. Penny just ignored the meowing, and came when she wanted to.
]
Penny had a much sweeter dispostion and mood than Phoebe, who bites every chance she gets. It is hard to say which cat I wouldn't mind losing, as I love them both like Children. Phoebe would be an ideal cat if she didn't bite so much. She angers easily, while Penny always had a good dispostion.
Both were raised from Kittendom.

If Penny doesn't come back....................

She will probably sell off all the radios to get enough to finally get an SX88 to see what the fuss was all about. Then she will sell it off at a yard sale for 25 bucks. :D

Glad Penny is back Pat!!!

That made me think of an outdoor Siamese that we had a few years back. One day I was outside and she came up to the ranch fence meowing away, so I walked over as she had been absent for about 10 days - two weeks. She kept on chatting away meow this meow that. I let her into the feed room, gave her some food, she ate some, laid down and had six kittens in the feed room before I knew what happened. No way could she live in the feed room as she was a handful and there was no access for her to come and go. So I move her in to the pump shed with very nice kitten nursery accommodations where she could come and go as she wanted. Egads was she furious, it took about two days before she finally accepted the pump shed over the feed room.

Hmm, this could be interesting, will this be the last straw to putting up with WA6BEN? What will the kittens do to the valuable radios? I guess we will have to stay tuned to the Zed for details.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts!!!

I sure noticed a great change in Phoebe while Penny was gone. She just curled up on the floor in a rug and sulked. HOW could she have lost the best friend she ever had. So it must have been the SOS cat signals Phoebe was sending out over the neighborhood that called Penny to come home. Now they are together again, 2 kitties in love! (in a Platonic sort of way)

Penny just got "fixed" a few weeks ago and was due to have her stiches removed. So not SURPRIZES due to us. Phoebe is also fixed.

(though they would maintain they weren't "BROKEN")

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5005/5279796961_1b86d79a08_b.jpg

2 mew kittens together again, inseperable, lifemates and so much looking out for each other. Hopefully Phoebe will tell Penny, "Don't ever think of trying this again!!!" instead of Penny telling Phoebe "You wouldn't BELIEVE what I all saw today! There is a WHOLE WORLD out there outside the house!!!!"

But that world doesn't include FANCY FEAST and Hand and Foot attending!
That world does have plenty of DOGS who would just LOVE to get their teeth into a cat, and Coyotes! It is so COLD and DANGEROUS out there!!!
So warm and comfortable inside. Which will they choose?

Here is PENNY, all safe back home next to a National NC-303

Phoebe's response to it all was to dig into the Purina Cat Chow somemore.
