My D710A works fine when I connect with the Test Echolink Server from the PC and/or hit Ident under Sysop Configuration from the PC the result the
tranmission over the 710 however, inbound connections into the 710 are not being picked up by the 710 (you can hear the connection on the 710 and it's
unsquelching the receiver but not getting to the PC running the Echolink
software).. Any troubleshooting ideas?

I found the problem - it's with the soundcard. I tried an Acer desktop using
the built in sound card - likewise computer 2 was an HP desktop with built in
sound. Same problem on both machines. I then tried a Toshiba Laptop and
bingo -- works perfectly. So now I need to find a list of "supported
soundcards" so I can buy sound cards for the desktops..

It really isn't your sound card. It is your radio. If you are using the data jack to connect to your computer, you need to make adjustments via the radio menu for the use of the data jack. Data jacks are fussy.

I originally set up my RF node with my FT-8800R using the data jack connected to my Rascal interface. It didn't have enough audio for my tastes so I switched it to connections to the speaker and microphone jacks, works much better now. I have since moved the FT-8800R to the van and use an FT-2900R.

Also you can make adjustments to the Advanced settings in your sound card to improve your RF received audio by activating the mic boost and adjusting accordingly.
