I am upgrading my systems from WIN XP Pro sp3 to WIN 7 Home premium 64 bit, and I am having some issues making the UDP connection. My old laptop still works and no changes have been made to the router so I am ruling that out. I have installed Ecohlink on my new laptop, I have reviewed the FAQ’s, and while TCP connects UDP fails test 1 & 2 on ports 5198 & 5199. I have turned the windows 7 firewall off and that made no difference. After making a ‘security’ modifications Echolink is always restarted, but there is no joy
I am sure that the answer is staring me right in the face but I just can’t see it for the trees.

To facilitate Echolink working on the previous install had you set a static IP address on WinXP? Since port forwarding is set up in routers with a specific address this might be the issue as Win7 is probably still using dhcp. Or, your system was usually left on and therefore the lease on the IP address never expired, during the time of reload the router may have given that address out to another PC on the network - again causing a mis-match between the port forwarding rule and the PC's IP address. I assume there are other PC's since you are using a router.
Hope you figure it out soon.

Now my PC gets powered down when not in use, but the dynamic IP address assignment is something that I didn't think of so I will check my router when I get home. The other ripple is my pc must be able to reach out and touch someone when using 'public' wifi.
Thanks for the info. 73's

The solution to my problem with EchoLink on Win7 (64-bit) turned out to the my DSL provider. I had too much signal, and after he turned it down by 50% everything started working once again.
Thank you for your help :)

Glad to hear you got it fixed - not sure if I have ever heard that solution but I will keep it in mind for next time.

I'm confused.
Your initial post said that your XP system was still working fine, but you upgraded to Win 7 and it stopped?

I have Echolionk working on my iPhone, and I have searched for the answer, but without much success. That's because your iPhone uses a proxy server so none of that other stuff matters.
