What kind of oatmeal do you eat and with what on/in it?

1) instant
2) quick
3) old fashioned/thick
4) extra thick
5) steel cut

Extra thick for me (I like it al dente/chewy, made with 25% less water) with butter, light brown sugar, and a glass of milk on the side (not poured over).

I noticed rolled barley in the bin next to the oats at the bulk foods section. Will have to give it a try.

When I'm in the mood, I'll eat all of the above except for instant. I usually put Cinnamon and Soy milk on it.

Old fashioned/thick. With a half teaspoon of peanut butter. Seriously! Try it before you knock it.

Did the barleymeal today, OK but not worth the extra 30¢ a pound. Fresh grated nutmeg was interesante pero I don't have any cinnamon.

Steel cut oatmeal every morning, with honey, shelled sunflower seeds or mixed nuts, and fruit. I make it in the microwave, 1/4 cup of steel cut to one cup of water, heat for 3 min on hi, and then 17 minutes on 10% power. If you are unfamiluar w/steel cut, it is a grainy looking (like corse sand), tastes different from other oatmeals, and is low cost, I pay $1.79USD / Lb. at our local health food store, Henrys (NOT Radio ).

The organic thick and extra thick rolled oats are $1.49/lb here in the bulk foods section.
I've tried the steel cut. It just tales too long to prepare, and I'm not that impressed. I'm happy for you though, may you live to be one hundred six.

Nothing gives a person energy like Oatmeal does. A tad bit of Cinnamon, some Honey and 2 pieces of toast does it until lunch time. Have found that it helps a persons mind to think faster and can operate CW at 35 WPM working DX.

Has anyone tried "Coach's Oats"? I bought a bag of them a few weeks ago, but haven't tried them yet. They seem to get good reviews for flavor and cooking time.

They are a type of steel cut oat that is designed to cook quickly, in just 5 minutes. I will be trying them when the weather gets a little cooler. Just doesn't seem right to be eating oatmeal when it's going to be over 100 degrees outside, but maybe it's just me.

Extra thick, made with old fashioned oatmeal. And I cook it with milk instead of water. Add butter, brown sugar and cinnamon - YUM!

The instant oatmeal is disgusting, it literally makes me sick. As a kid I would vomit every time I ate the stuff.

I don't know how anyone can eat it. The texture of paste, and the flavor of boiled dust.
