Hi All,
This is one thing I will never do again. Order License plates with a call sign on them in California. What a Nitemare. I ordered my plates on 3/21/03 I had to give up my old plates at the same time They gave me a temp. registration. On the way home from the DMV. I get pull over by the Cops for no Licence plates. The Cop told me that the DMV shound not have taken my old plates in the first place. The storie goes on the next day I get pulled over again for the same reason. Now gettin' a bit pissed. I head over to the dealer I got my car from and picked up a couple of paper dealer plates. That stopped that problem. I get my Tags on 4/24/03 no plates. I called the DMV they said the have no record of me ordering the plates. I called a supervisor of the DMV he gave me a Number to call they said the plates are not made by prison labor anymore. I guess they a to busy becoming jail house Lawyers or watching Judge Judy. What ever I called again on 5/9/03 they said the plates are being processed and it will take 7 to12 weeks to get them.....geeeeze! I called them again on 6/2/03 they said the have no record of the plates. I give up. I got them on 6/5/03. Seems in California under Gray Dumba.. the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing..........in my wallet I'm sure. Now I have to go to the DMV today Because the tags are out of date. DMV never even sent me a renewel. NEVER AGAIN!

The word is "finally." Also, "story" & "renewal." Maybe the Republic of California should give give spelling competency exams in school in order to graduate....

Hey Mike, how did you miss the sentence fragments, "nitemare", "a" instead of "are", capitalization in the middle of a sentence, and the other numerous errors.

It's nice to know that QRZ has a resident linguist to review and criticize all the posts, but do try to be more thorough.

"California should give give spelleing"

Hehe. How come we always end up correcting people's spelling. This isn't a grammar or spelling contest.

I went through the same thing you did here in CA several years ago (Before Davis). What a pain. But, I didn't and won't give up. Got to have those plates on the car.

P. S. To the language professor, get a life or maybe do a little more operating instead of criticizing people.

Why not do both? #
BTW, you're not a real Ham in my book unless you can write grammtically correct sentences, spell as well as the National Spelling Bee Champ, and copy 40wpm in CW!!! #You guys who can't should go back to CB!

Better keep editing, you didn't get all the errors out yet. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif too much CW, likely. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Why would we do that when there are "high and mighty" types like yourself here in ham radio to annoy with our spelling errors, grammatically incorrect sentences, #and inablity to copy CW at 40 wpm?

I guess it's a good thing for the rest of us that the only book that really matters when it comes to being a real ham is the stamped with a big FCC on the cover, huh?

Last time I checked this wasn't a high school class, but rather a message board about our chosen hobby, amateur radio. #Why not concentrate on enjoying the hobby with others rather than putting them down?

But the coolest thing here is this: #There is something those of us who can't copy CW at 40 wpm, those of us who use grammatically incorect sentences, and those of us who don't spell as well as somebody who aparently has mastered the English language as you have. #We can learn.

You, on the other hand, who looks down at us from his "high and mighty" pedistal, will always be in that small percentage of hams who discourage others and drive them away from amateur radio. #And that's putting it nicely.

My two cents.

Wow! #KG6PTD - I guess you couldn't tell I was being facetious....
I was just commenting on the lost art of writing here in the USA. #Grammar & spelling are important if you want to communicate properly. #After are, Hams are communicators as well as experimenters. #We're all educated, right? #We had to pass at least one complex exam on electrical theory, as well as prove mastery of CW (alas, now at 5 wpm). #So, it was difficult for me to tell what the topic was about when I saw it was posted as "Finely got my plates."(?) #Is this about new dishes?
BTW OM - corrected spellings: "incorrect," "apparently" & "pedestal."

Couldn't resist those corrections, could you? #I guess it's a good thing I left those mistakes in to make a point. #You knew what I meant, so did everybody else. #Chill a little. #No point in highlighting everybody else's shortcomings. #We all know what everybody else is talking about when they post here. #And if don't know, we'll ask. #We don't need somebody else correcting everybody for us.

BTW... As a communications major and professional broadcaster I understand the importance of good grammer and spelling. #But I also understand that pointing out people's mistakes can be taken the wrong way.

I work with OPR and was offended by the fact that you took more time to correct him than you did in posting something related to his original post. #Fact is, he got his new amateur radio operator plates and he's proud of them. #He may have spelled a few words wrong in a post a few days ago, but he works his a$$ off here making these radio stations sound great. #Just thought I'd point one of his strong points (engineering) since you're so quick to point out mistakes. #'Nuff said 'bout that! (go ahead and correct that one)

Back to the original topic... #Those plates look great on the ride Harry. #Maybe I'll get around to getting mine soon and we can get more crap from the bald one.

73,

There was a time, before Noah Webster destroyed things, when a word was spelt whatever way one wanted to! Those were the days, to be sure. No one to complain about your spelling! And what fun for poets! Oh joy! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

BTW, Connecticut was hassle free and very inexpensive for amateur radio marker plates.
