I would likely have not gotten my ticket if not for this site.
My grandfather (W7VHY) was after me for years to go for Novice, but I could never get the code down.. Think I will work on it now for General, but it will be like starting over again ;)
My father (W7UZB) wasn't quite as hard about it, but as a result, I did grow up with hamming in all modes. Including RTTY on ASR-28 teletype machines.
The FCC took 17 days to cut me my call, but I did get it.
Thank you QRZ!

Congratulations on your ticket! So what if it took a while? You did it, and now you're here. That's great.

ASR 28 . . . fond memories . . . heh heh heh.

Good luck in the future with ham radio.

I'll echo that! #Congratulations, indeed! #I've been interested in radio (in some form or other) for many years. #I finally got my Tech ticket in '98 after my Dad got his about four years earlier. #I've been having so much fun. #There is so much to do in VHF/UHF. #I personally like packet and APRS. #I don't have the equipment for some of the more exotic modes, though.

I'm working on my General as we type and I'll encourage you to do the same. #Rather than just plunge into it for the sake of "doing it", I wanted to do it for a reason. #Thusly, worldwide contacts. #I want to chase the signals in faraway places. #W.A.S. is my first "large" goal!

CW can be fun, if you think of it as fun. #I was initially put off by the code. #I sat down with a good computer training tool (see below) and took my time learning it. #Don't learn the "look" of the code, learn the "sound" of the code. #And make it a game... I drive down the street and mouth out the code for license plates! # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

And I know Hams who are content with their Tech license, as VHF/UHF/SHF is their "cup of tea". Some of the stuff they're doing with microwaves are pretty neat-o. I've heard of another ham who uses 6m to send telemetry from model rockets.

Welcome to an amazing hobby! There really is no limit.

DX is the primary reason I want it.
6m is ok, but the real meat is in the lower bands, lol ;) I really want to check into the Columbia Basin Net and see how many of the old heads are still around.
But, one thing at a time.. 2m and 70cm will keep me happy for a while, but I am aiming at getting the higher class..

Thanks for all the congrats, by the way.. It was only some 30 years in the coming :)
