View Full Version : N6SAP/W6NUT Repeater
I can't believe that Roy, N6TK would sell his repeater to an EX-Bootlegger. Tell me it isn't so ?!

What, for Pete's sake, are you talking about?

That's kind of a heavy accusation.......... I wouldn't say such a thing unless I had hard evidence of it....... but then again, the repeater is 3000 mi. away so I wouldn't know either.....

I heard about this guy:
So dude has a repeater, and for whatever reason he or the repeater wasn't licensed. The whole story I think is in the ARRL enforcement logs, so you can pick up on the whole beef. Personally, it was California, so who cares! If the words SAP or NUT are in your ID suffix, that tells the general public a LOT.

From the legal point of view....
Do you need an Amateur License to own a repeater? Sure you have to have a license to operate it, but do you have to have a valid FCC issued Amateur License to own it? After all you do not need a ham license to buy a ham radio.
AND lets say my buddy has a repeater/owns it can I not co-oridinate said repeater under my call if he and I decide to make a team effort? Now I would of course be responsible for the transmissions from said repeater but do I actually need to own the repeater? I do not think so because many a club repeater has the call sign of one of the members BUT the repeater is owned by the club.
So I would have to at least initially conclude that yes he can sell it to anyone at all but said owner if not a licensed ham needs to find a buddy with a ham license.
Do we have any legal eagle soaring around out there?
I did not accuse anyone of anything. This is the L.A. repeater that Riley is supposed to be cleaning up. I said, "Tell me it isn't so, N6TK did not sell the W6NUT 147.435 Repeater to an Ex-Bootlegger did he? I guess Riley is cleaning house though?

Who cares? Your question refers to an EX-bootlegger. (I have no clue what the current owner was, nor do I care.) There are lots of "EX-lotsathings." Who cares? Personally, I'm past caring about EXes. Why are YOU so worried about it?
And what is a bootlegger anyway? Someone who gets on the air and uses a false callsign? Yep. And why then do I look up N6PVP and come up with a blank? I guess I can't call you a bootlegger since this forum isn't "on the air." But . . . go get a license then come back and talk to us. Your comments here mean zero since you too are using a bogus callsign on here. You must have something to hide, eh?

This is quite interesting, coming from "N6PVP," which is an invalid, unassigned callsign.

Good observation Steve. #So, Rich has made a very bad entry into the world of amateur radio, eh.

Good for you ZDY. #I have been listening to this repeater for several years and I must say that it is Scott Press (the repeater owner) and not R.H. that is cleaning up the repeater. #What he did before getting licensed is not our business now. #Scott has had to deal with many, many irritations on this repeater and is doing a great job reducing the number of jammers and others who would otherwise have gotten the machine turned off for good. #Sure it is in concert with Riley, but it is on Scott's own initiative. #Riley could have pulled the license of the owner but instead chose to help him in his efforts.

Most 2 meter repeaters are 3 to 5 IQ points above Chicken Band anyway.
Upgrade and get on HF -- the real ham radio.
Out.

You're not opinionated, are you (W3)SY?
I leave the peer pressure at home about the upgrade thing. #I find it's more of a personal decision, rather than a cheering section rah-rah-ing someone on. #You have to be motiviated and committed to learn the code and the theory. #Just my $.02!

Yeah, HF is a real step above 2 meters...i.e. 14.313, 3.950, 3.895, etc.
Wake me when it's over. Going back to sleep!
