I have checked the modes I want in Options.
They are all grayed out when I try to select one.
Windows 7, FT-857, Signalink.
Any ideas has to be something simple.

I'm a bit confised. There's no place in DM780 in the HRD V5 Suite where you enable modes. There is a place in Program Options, Modes + ID under the Reed Solomon tab that allows you to ENABLE Reed-Solomon IDing of specific modes. There's also a place where you can enable what Modes will be displayed in the Waterfall.
Is it possible you have not selected a sound card device and that's why all the modes in QSO screen are not available? Can you post a screen shot?

I am away from my home computer right now. I am new so it probably a simple mistake.
From memory I have the sound card set up both in an out for USB audio codec. It sends and my radio keys.
Right above the waterfall, to the right hand side next to the favorites button is where you can choose psk, cw, etc. Whatever you have chosen to be shown in options.

It could be my computer also, HRD on windows7 is locking up or getting multiple IRP requests, blue screen memory dumps. Digipan and Fldigi working fine.

I run HRD on Win 7 Enterprise without issue, so it's possible.
To change modes, it will be at the upper left corner of the QSO window. By default it's BPSK-31. Should be a dropdown arrow or 'carrot' (the small 'v' shape) so you can choose from the list.
Not sure why HRD is causing BSD's (Blue Screen of Death). If HRD is causing it, it could be some deeper OS level issue. Also, try running DM780 (and HRD and HRD Rotor and HRD Logbook) as Administrator - once. Right click on the icon and select Run As Administrator. This allows HRD/DM780/Rotor/Log to access the registry and create certain registry settings and 'finish' setting up the application. As this is a Vista/Win 7 thing - it's not a bug, it's a feature!
There's also a place where you can enable what Modes will be displayed in the Waterfall.

That's what he means. When selected those drop down to lists which are entirely greyed out and you cannot select anything. I've been using HRD for a long enough time to be somewhat dependent in my workflow on this method of switching modes.
Would be swell to get past this....

If I understand the question correctly, you're looking to enable various mode options displayed in the Waterfall.
If I'm correct, try this.
With DM-780 open, at the top of the Waterfall display, there is an OPTIONS button. Select it. Now on the left there are three groups of options. In the middle group, select MODES.
Put a check mark in 'Show modes in Waterfall Toolbar' and then select the mode Or mode Groups) you wish to have at the top of the waterfall display.
Did this answer the question?

Apparently you do not understand correctly. The mode dropdowns *ARE* enabled, however the entries within them are ===greyed out===.
If you select buttons instead of drop downs then those are greyed out as well. It is not an issue of being able to select the mode buttons or drop downs, it is that the actual modes shown by those selected drop down menus or buttons are not available to be selected. They are "greyed out"
The term "greyed out" is used to depict that an entry is visible in a menu, but has it's presentation toned down, the text is grey and not black. This typically indicates that the function selected by the menu item is not available in the current context or configuration.
Do you (or anyone else) have any idea what circumstances might cause the modes selections in the waterfall to be greyed out?

Funny I just revisited this thread and there is a new post after 6 months. I have been ignoring the problem and using fldigi.
I have enabled all the buttons in options as above, buttons and drop downs. They show up but are greyed out and they do not respond to a mouse clik. I am stuck on psk31 only.

And this is why I am so confused by the issue. Look at the screen shots. Mine are NOT grayed out. The instructions I've posted do accomplish what I suggest it does. If that check mark is not in the box that says 'Show modes in Waterfall Toolbar' then that just may be the problem. They do gray out when I uncheck that box.

Mine are not greyed out when I choose the modes in options. After I choose them I can not select them.
In this pic MCW is greyed out and the contesta group is greyed out. I have checked showed modes in waterfall.

All I can suggest at this point is to re-install, or wait until the update comes out in a few days.
As you can see, they are not in mine. Hence why I've been rather confused. It SHOULD be working!!!:confused: When I select the different modes the bandwidth bar in the waterfall changes according to the mode bandwidth. So, it's functioning as designed. I sometimes wonder if different PC hardware doesn't cause these kind of issues.
IIRC correctly you are using a SignaLink for your interface, same as I. So it's not interface dependent.
Does it perform the same way in the QSO window and not the SuperBrowser?

OK. I just tested this myself. It works fine in the QSO window but DOES NOT work in the SuperBrowser. Mine Gray out in the SuperBrowser window BECAUSE the SuperBrowser only works in PSK. :):):) Now I understand the issue. Sorry it took so long, but your posting of the picture led me to the answer. The Pic shows the SuperBrowser window. Select the QSO window (1st Icon in the tool bar), and it should be working just fine.

Thanks I will try that when I get home.
So if I close the superbrowser, open qso window I will then be able to use the mode change buttons that I have chosen to show up along the top of the waterfall?
Seems simple enough, I did not realize the SB only worked with psk31.
Hopefully thats it.
Now can you get my prolific usb/signalink driver to play nice and quit crashing Windows 7 64 bit? :):)

That was it, superbrowser and other modes was the problem, not a problem with the program. Just a problem with me.
