The radio will only allow you to use it as a link radio. That means you need another radio to talk into it for Echolink to work. If you have an HT, set it to whatever simplex frequency you are using on your Kenwood. When you key up your HT, the Kenwood will receive the signal and send it over the internet via Echolink. When someone responds, the program will key up your Kenwood and transmit whatever the other person is saying. When you get it set up, my node number is 4021099. Gimme a shout. HTH :)

I understand you have to go into the menu and make some adjustments. When you use the Kenwood radios there are some adjustments that need to be done to the audio, as it comes out of the box the settings are much lower than they need to be for Echolink. Can you access it alright using an HT?
You can't use the radio microphone to key up Echolink.
