I just thought I would post some comments on the new Ranger RCI-5054DX six meter all-mode radio. I just bought one of these rigs, and so far really enjoy it.
The radio features 25-watts out on SSB, and 10-watts out on AM, CW, and FM. The power is adjustable from 1-watt to high power.
There are a couple of things I find annoying about this radio. First of all, Ranger manufactures CB radios, under the name Cobra. For some reason, they saw fit to install a "roger beep" function on the radio. They also installed a P.A. feature, something I will never use, and I really see no reason why it is there. The stock hand microphone is nothing more than a CB mic with the RCI logo on it.
I do like the nice, large display. The frequency is quite easy to see, even at a good distance. The receiver seems quite sensitive too. Also, I have worked several stations on it so far, and they all commented on the good audio that the radio produces.
For $300.00, I think it is a good radio, and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to get on six meters, or someone looking for a nice backup or mobile radio.
