Actually the internet and all other forms of "land lines" do operate on hertzian waves. The only difference is the medium that is used to transfer those waves. Look at the specs for a nic card sometime, or cat 5 ratings, they are good up to a certain frequency. Even if that land line happens to enter fiber optic lines along the way, it is still dependent on waves for transfer. Land lines are nothing more than proper radio etiquette in it's simplest form, keeping your communications from interfering with others.
