I just installed Ham Radio Deluxe (v4.1 build 2321 Beta) and have a problem with Digital Master 780 (v4.1 Beta build 2321).

When I try to connect DM to HRD I get the following error message:

Error connecting to 'local host' host port 7809 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Check:
'local host' is the correct address (don't know what that means)
HRD is started (it is)
the HRD TCP/IP server is running (don't know what that means)
Access is not blocked by a firewall (tried it with my McAfee firewall turned off)

Any help would be appreciated.

Tnx.

OK, Things look like they are set correctly. The "Local Host" is just that. The "Local" computer that is "Host"ing the application. It's a network term used to identify the very same machine. If you were hosting the HRD software on a different machine, the IP address of that machine would be used instead of "Local Host".

So, on to your problem. Have you gone into tools and stopped, then restarted the IP Server? Then restart DM780. For some odd reason DM780 is not able to get band and frequency data from HRD. This was more important in version 4 of HRD as DM780 kept it's own log. Does not mean DM780 will not work.

Have you also considered upgrading to version 5? Version 5 combines the separate logs from HRD and DM780 - if you want to! It is possible with V5 to keep a log file for HRD and another for DM780. As well as creating separate log files for contests, locations, etc. It also offers you profiles so you can set up a profile for Phone, CW, Digital, etc. V5 is very stable as of the last release. I've been running for 2 months without issue. It also adds some great features.

I don't have V4 loaded, so I can't run through your problem. I do recall there were some IP Server service issues in V4. You may be encountering it.

"Local host" should be "localhost"

It is an internal dns path to 127.0.0.1 or your own machine.

In HRD click Tools, then IP server. Make sure it is started and note the port number there. If it isn't started, start it and try again. If it is....

In DM780 click View then Radio to open the radio pane if not already. Click on the properties icon and check the host and port. It should read "localhost" and have the same port number as noted in HRD.

Um....may be a little different in V.4 Don't remember.

If that does not work then be sure your firewall will accept connections from the local machine to another port on the machine.

Thanks, guys.
The problem was that the IP Server wasn't started.
Appreciate the help.
