I definitely do wish that all persons who post on QRZ.com would identify themselves either by amateur call or by their real name. However, the owner of QRZ.com has not set up the protocol that requires this. Therefore, what I would "like" to happen, is not "required" to happen. Nevertheless, the ability to "hide" your identity does not "go over" with the majority of people who post on the forum.

I definitely identify myself, unlike the "moderators" of several other forums that I use who don't want any "flack". If anyone is going to get the "flack", it is me (and I do get some from time-to-time). Frankly, I can't see any reason for someone not to want to be identified. Unfortunately, the majority of people who do not give a "true" identity are often those who cause the most problems with inane posts, flame wars, etc. There are those who do identify who fall into this category as well. But, they are in the minority of the problems that I run into in trying to keep some sort of order in these forums.

If you think that you will get threatening E-Mails from others, every E-Mail program that I know of has a means to "lock out" messages from those people with whom you don't wish to communicate. The chances of anything physically happening to you are virtually "nil". You have as much chance as being hit by a meteor as to someone actually showing up on your doorstep. People are "brave" when they "hide" behind a pseudonym, but lose that bravado when they are actually identified by name.

I have "locked down" some threads that had long since gone away from their original topic and became nothing but a "name calling" session or a "flame war". I also "locked down" two threads that started out being extremely inflamatory and warned the people who started them. I don't "lock down" threads because I disagree with the topics (and there are some running right now that I don't agree with!). But, I definitely reserve the right to "lock down" any thread that degenerates, and I think that the vast majority of users of these forums agree with me. I get constant "pleas" from people wanting me to "ban so-and-so". Frankly, I don't like to ban someone. Yes, I have banned a few, one who was a complete "nut case", one who posted very inappropriate photos, and one who was using the E-Mail addresses of other persons who post on the forums.

Anyway, all that I am trying to do is to maintain "order". The posts by a very small number of persons cause the most problems and tend to "drive away" those who try to use QRZ.com as a civil medium of exchange.
