Birmingham, Alabama-area ham operator Don Keith, N4KC, will soon publish his eleventh novel, a techno-thriller set aboard a nuclear submarine and in the jungles of South America. #Co-written with former nuke sub captain Commander George Wallace USN (ret), the book tells the story of a Colombian drug lord who intends to flood America with a super-addictive new strain of cocaine. #The old submarine USS Spadefish is called upon to try to help a Navy SEAL team already on the ground in Colombia destroy the drug fields before the product can be processed. #They discover that a mini-sub is already on the way to Seattle to deliver the contraband...and that the coke is so powerful it can kill its users. #Forge Books of New York will publish the novel in hardback in April.

The book has already received great reviews. #New York Times best-selling author Stephen Coonts says, “FINAL BEARING is a rip-snorting submarine adventure as up-to-date as tomorrow’s headlines.” # Best-selling writer W. E. B. Griffin says, “(The authors) take you to the heart of the action as America fights a secret battle in a brilliantly portrayed South American setting. #A great tale.”

Keith's other novels include THE FOREVER SEASON, set in college football, and WIZARD OF THE WIND, about a young man who craves a career as a disk jockey and eventually becomes a broadcast mogul. #Ham radio played a key part in the plot of that book. #He also co-wrote the ROLLING THUNDER RACING SERIES, eight paperback novels aimed at young adult readers and set in big-time stockcar racing.

N4KC was first licensed in 1962 as WN4BDW, then WA4BDW. #He holds the Amateur Extra Class license and is primarily active on 20-meter CW and 2-meter FM. #He also holds DXCC, WAS, and 45-word-per-minute code proficiency certificates. #He was a broadcaster for over twenty years and now heads an advertising and media program at a Birmingham college.

It never ceases to amaze me all the amazing talents amateur radio operators bring into this hobby http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

Keep up the the good work - I look forward to your new book.

Thanks for the nice words. We're excited about the book...and the non-fiction one coming early next year about the USS Archerfish, a truly unique WWII-era sub.
