I purchased a Hallicrafters S-38C from this guy advertised as
"MINT" on E-bay #3009926263. What showed up can barely pass
for GOOD condition. I e-mailed him prior to paying him explaining
EXACTLY what I expected to show up based on CCA grading
standards. He did not reply, which SHOULD have been a warning
to me! What the UPS man left here can only be used for parts. I
e-mailed Mr. Brandenburg explaining my displeasure and the
reasons:
1. There is a hole through to the shaft in the center of the on/off/volume knob.
2. Numerous surface scratches covering the cabinet.
3. The paper back cover is bent and cracked at the bend.
4. The labels on the bottom are cracked/peeling.
5. The rubber feet are dry rotted and cracked.
6. The top of the cabinet is dented down about 1/4 inch at the rear.
7. The original owners manual is missing.
What I received back from him was:
WEB, IN MY DESCRIPTION I DESCRIBED IT AS NEAR MINT
AND I DIDNT SAY HOW NEAR. THE KNOB IS ALL I SAW
WRONG THE FRAME WAS FINE AND IF YOU EXPECT ME TO
BELEIVE YOU CAN ONLY USE IT FOR PARTS AND THAT YOUR
AFRAID TO PLUG IT IN WELL YOU BETTER CLEAN THOSE COBWEBS
FROM THE ATTIC! THATS A GREAT RADIO ENJOY IT! AND AS
FOR MY DISCLAIMER " ALL SALES FINAL, INVOICE HIGHER THAN
TRUE AND FINAL COST TO DEALER.
What a CHEAT! (I didn't say how near it was) After all, I did e-mail
him prior to paying him and supplied him with an EXACT description
of what MINT means....
Stay clear of this liar and cheat- lest you be BURNED like he
burned me! Anyone who would like a photo of the piece of crap he
sent me is welcome to e-mail me with requests. If you've been burned
before and know what feels like, please feel free to e-mail Mr. Brandenburg
on my behalf: Terrybburg@aol.com although I doubt that a few hundred
e-mails will sway this horse-toothed jackass!
