I recently got my tech license and made my first contact today. Once you make a contact where do you save their callsign on qrz? or do you need some sort of software? I'm new to ham radio. any info would help.

Do a google search on the term, "Logging Software"
I prefer AClog3.0 but there are many others. Allot of free ones as well
Also, check out eQSL.cc for online QSLs. There is LOTW if you are an ARRL Member or DX Station.

All you really need and allot of hams do it this way exclusively is a piece of paper and a pen. Write down callsign, date, UTC time, mode and band.
No reason to log repeater contacts but you can if you want to.

You don't.
You will need your own system for keeping a log.
It can be as simple as a paper log, kept on a binder or tablet
of some sort. A computer file, like an Excel spreadsheet of your design.
(That is what I use) or a computer program logbook.

There are LOTS of freebies out there. N1MM works well fior contests, but not so wall for day to day operation. GenLog, Logger32 and a BUNCH others are out there free to download.

Then there are the "pay for" logging programs.
N3FJP comes to mind first, as I have used it for Field Day.
It is around $50 for the entire suite.

Google is your friend. "Logging software"

I have spiral notebook logs, both ARRL printed ones and my own logbooks starting with blank / lined pages in a large spiral notebook that they use in schools, then, I write my own headers on each page.
Just the basic info , Date, time of qso, calls worked, freq and mode, signal reports received and given.
You can add notes like the type of radio and antenna the other station had and personal info that may be of interest.
On the first page of each log I have my name and address and callsign, a brief discription of my station.
.
I have written logs going back to 1961 ! If I had to type this all into a computer log, it would take the rest of my lifetime and I would have no time left to get on the air :D
