View Full Version : Digital Software Problem (MixW).
Maybe it's me.....
I have been trying to make this program work with my computer and radio for over a year and, I am at a loss. My evaluation period expired before I could come close to figuring out how to configure the program.
I really would like to use the program but, I cannot see paying for something that "does not work", I would pay the money if I could make it work. My computer has an motherboard sound card that I use for input audio and a Sound Blaster PCI 128 add-on card that I use for output audio.
I have a USB to serial CAT controller, my PC interface is homebrew; I am keying the radio with the serial port 1, my radio is an Icom IC-706MiiG and, I am not having any problems using other digital programs like HRD and PSK31. I am using MixW 2.18.
I have the program configured and, it will operater for a short time and then, the configuratiuon of the sound devices goes crazy. My input device reads, "127.0.0.1" and my output device reads, "port 23456". I have changed then back to the proper values but it does not stay configured. At this point, I have to restart the computer to use MixW again (I can use other digital programs after this fault, jusy not MixW).
So, why is the sound card configuration on this program keep changing every time I try to set it up to use so that I can become a happy paying customer?
Mel.
MixW has a very active user group;

I have been using it for rtty contests primarily for almost 2 years and really like it. I used the unregistered version for one weekend and registered it without a second thought.
The Yahoo user groups are highly recommended. I belong to 11 of them for different ham gear etc. Often, the software author or factory technicians are around to answer questions and everybody else will pitch in with what they know about the problem.
Incidentally, I use the same soundcard that you use. I use the Soundblaster for digital modes and the on board sound for the usual computer nonsense, DVD's CD's etc.
Did I miss something, or did you leave out one of the most important parts in your description? What operating system are you using ?

Hello Jim,
Yes, I was remiss in my posting of all the vital information; The computer has an Intel D845PT motherboard with a 2.0 Ghz P4 processor, 1 Gig of RAM and, the operating system is Win XP (2002) w/SP3 (build 2600).

Actually, I joined the group months ago when I first installed MixW to get info from the community. I flew the same Kite over there and I am hoping for an answer from someone who can provide a patch or something.
It's interesting that you have the same add-on sound card in the same configuration as I do but, you are not having any problems; Hmmm! It took me a while to play with all the variables involved with configuring the multiple CAT and port controls and the multiple sound cards. It would have been easier if I had RTFM (Help page) first.:o
I tried upgrading to the version released January, 2009 but the sound card issue still presented itself so, I went back to the 2007 version. As I mentioned, I can use the other digital modes software without a hitch with my configuration.
If, I only were using only one soundcard, the program would work great as it is but, I cannot see myself crawling under the desk to re-route the sound from my speakers to the input of the soundcard interface very often.
.
FWIW . . .
I use a US Interface Navigator and have used MixW without any problems with the interface. Sounds to me like you have a hardware problem.

I went through some of the same before I ironed out my problems...
I shifted over to the freeware alternatives (digipan, mmsstv, etc.) which don't cost anything other than the download time, then worked through config and hardware set up difficulties. I have been a registered owner of MixW for a while now and love it. MixW was a snap to set up once I knew I had a working system between computer and radio. :)
Do not try to trouble shoot on a short time schedule (the time out period) of trialware. That is a setup for frustration.
My problem was a bad internal sound card. My solution: a USB soundcard (http://www.amazon.com/External-Adapter-Desktop-Notebook-Laptop/dp/B0019SVUQK/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_3) that cost me a total under $5 (including S&H) from an advertiser on Amazon.com. The usb sound card looks like one of the usb thumb drives but has a microphone input and earphone output on it. Works great for me.
My computer: HP laptop running XP Home w/sp3. The usb sound card was recognized and installed by the OS immediately so no install problems here.
