At the local club, there is an IC-718 for sale for $700, used. Im a new general, and know almost nothing about this rig. can I have some help deciding weather this rig used, or an IC-718 new.

Thanks and 73

Now then ! What's all that about an IC 746 ? Are you getting tied up with numbers ? I think you mean there's a used IC 746 for sale at $700, do you advise I buy this, or a new IC 718. Depends on a few things. Has the 746 had all its problems dealt with, like the dreaded black screen ? Its quite a complicated rig compared to a 718. The 718 is an excellent little rig and ideal for digital activity and phone but they say its lousy for CW. The 746 had lots of overheating problems but has excellent audio and lots of buttons to play with. You make the choice.
