Anyone have any experience with a 40m TAK-TENNA? I am looking into building one and would appreciate some honest comments.

The reviews are all over the map. Some swear by it, some swear at it. I think for what it is, it's a bit overpriced, but I guess you could brew your own as many have.

I know this from firsthand experience. My QRP rig does a lot better with a Tak Tenna than no antenna at all.

Ol' Gordo West Reviewed it in the lastest issue of CQ I believe.

I'll hold off on my thoughts.

Build it and then you can give us your thoughts on it.

They work, and if it is all you have room for - go with it.

You might check out the homebrew TAK-tenna (http://billbrwn.tripod.com//id3.html), at about $17 its a fraction of the cost. I've been looking for another antenna and this is one I have on my list, but I would build it instead of spending the money on a kit.

I have one and used it for about a week. I wanted to see if it works as good as all the eham reviews said. It does work, but it is not a miracle antenna as it seems some of the reviews say it is. I have also used the isotron's and I would put them about the tak.

Now if it is all you can put up you will make contacts which is what ham radio is about for most of us, but if you have room for a G5RV or a Alpha-Delta antenna I would suggest those.

Hey eham had a nice construction article for a multi-band antenna made out of ribbon cable, try that one.

Now these are my opinions only, and not scientific in anyway, just me using it in everyday operations.

Good Luck

The experiments with this type of antenna began with Bill Petlowany during the 1960-1970 periods and his designs and ideas appeared in 73 magazine. Seems this magazine featured lots of hams who experimented with wire.

Look at it this way, this is a monoband antenna, not many people want a monoband antenna. If you are stuck for space a better antenna would be a magnetic loop, you can have one with different bands, maybe three. If space isn't so critical the best bet is to buy a multiband vertical, or buy a fibreglass fishing pole 10 metres long and make a quarter wave vertical for 40 with a quarter wave raised radial, use it with a tuner. use multiple wires, one for each band, won't cost a lot but it will get you around better than a TAK type

Tak-Tenna sounds like the main character in a Japanese horror movie…
