The annual Challenger Special Event will take place this coming Tuesday, January 28, 2003 to commemorate the Challenger Shuttle Disaster.

The Challenger Middle School Amateur Radio Club, KI6YG, will be attempting to make contacts throughout the US (and DX if possible) during the day will special emphasis during the period 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM PST.

During this period the activity will be covered by the local news media. As the cameramen are interested in filming the kids, it's important that there be someone for them to contact. #Accordingly, Frank Forrester, Science
and Technology Teacher is asking hams to monitor their planned frequencies during that time. They are: 28,350, 21.335, and possibly 14. 275. If you hear the kids calling CQ, give them a call.

I hope you were able to make many contacts today, unfortunately at this time I am only a Technician, so I would not have been able to participate, but I think it's a great idea that amateur radio is a part of your school. Please keep up the good work.

Nice project as stated above. #I too, was happy to participate. #Fortunitly I came across it by accident because I hadn't read the Speceial Event section in QST for the month. #I was happy to be the #32 contact.

Best Wishes,

I guess this is what I get for not checking QRZ often enough. I had no idea until this morning when I just happened to run over here. If I had only known, I really would have made it a point to make a contact with them.

Indeed! Don't forget that you can communicate with the International Space Station. That is one of my main Ham goals. Just need to get a good 2m radio.
