Hello,
I have an offer to buy an Icom 725 from a friend. I personally know this person and have even used the radio. I'm looking for some reviews and pricing ranges.
I was told he would sell me the radio and all the accy for the price he bought it for.
If I recall he has the radio, PS, MFJ tuner and some other items.
Would $250-300 be worth it. Looking at some postings they are selling for around that price.
Thanks

I think it would be worth $250-300 if it is in good working condition.
With the PS, tuner etc, and the radio for that amount you would have a pretty low priced HF station.
Based on the prices I see radios listed for on this forum and other online swaps he is offering you a good deal.
That radio doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but it would be a solid backup or starter rig.

I had an IC-725, and I was pretty disappointed with it.
The receiver is very easily overloaded. This results in buckshot noise across the whole band from just a few loud stations. The noise blanker makes the problem much worse. Sometimes, turning on the attenuator will help.
There was a series of modifications for this rig published in QST years ago, and if all of those mods were done, it will help this rig a lot. However, the mods were fairly delicate in the heart of the receiver, so if they were poorly done, you may have a flaky radio. I did the ones that were easy to do, and they helped a lot, but the rig still bayed at the moon if there were loud signals around.
I'd look at it very closely before you buy it. There are other radios in this price class that would be better, and the better the receiver, the happier the user.

I have one and use it every day. I have no trouble at all with the radio. with out any amp and a homebrew dipole I talk michigan to bahamas every am.my suggestion would be buy a GOOD antenna. If you know the history of used equipment you should be ok.if you dont know who or how they took care of it its a crap shoot.good luck...73..ted
