man, i love having my extra class! just made 2 DX contacts, within two minutes of each-other. first was a japan contact, JH1SEJ, had him at a 5/7, (ALWAYS WANTED TO TALK TO JAPAN!! WOO HOO!), and the second was VK3IO, and had him between 5/5 and 5/7. man i love DX! i have made some DX contacts in the past, but for some reason im just really excited about it tonight. sorry for the rambling, as most of you have probably been here many many times over, but to me, there is just something about yaking away at some guy on the other side of the world on 100 watts and an old yaesu with a failing display.
am i nuts? or just really diggin the fact that i can talk on radio for more than 5 miles??

On the contrary KI4MXO. I think that you (and I) have it exactly right. It's what keeps our hobby / passion alive and hopefully well.

And more to your point... I've been following the propagation reports for 40 meters, and it's been out performing (in quite a few cases) 20 meters on a fairly regular basis.

I have been trying to get K5D on 40 since they started. No luck.

One try this morning, and T27A is in the log.

Go figure.

I worked a German station the other night on 40 M PSK. 30 watts to an inverted V which has the apex at 30 feet. So not exactly a Big Gun antenna setup.

This past week I have seen a lot of European stations on 7.035 and some on 7.070 early in the evening running PSK.

So 40 is looking better and better.

Congrats on your DX Contacts Josh.. Seems to me that you are truly enjoying the great hobby of Amateur Radio :)

hey thanks y'all. i work nights, so my only operating times are in the afternoon when i get up, and after midnight when i get home. i agree, 40 has been much nicer than 20 lately. no complaints here! id like to get some digital modes up and running, but for now im only on voice, and very soon, cw. i heard a south korean station last night, but by the time i got tuned up and back on freq. he was gone. maybe tonight ill have some better luck.
