Live news showing it all now, looks like probably everyone got out OK,lot of Luggage and Carryons lost though.
Looks Like BIRDS took down the plane, maybe a flock of Geese
Oh, ALFRED HITCHCOCK?????
We went by there yesterday on our way back from PA. Amazing. The Lincoln Tunnel is nearby.
A LOT of people here got 9/11 flashbacks.
The flight was headed to Charlotte.

This reminds me of that scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Y'know, the one when Indy's dad starts flapping his umbrella at a bunch of seagulls, which then take off and bring down a German fighter plane.
That is, if birds actually brought down the plane in question here.
Here is live video from Fox (http://media.myfoxtwincities.com/livestream/web_channel/index.htm)

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fox reports that they believe that all the people aboard the plane have been rescued. The birdstrike took out both engines on the Airbus A320 and the pilot had to ditch in the river.

I dunno, I wouldn't be so sure, I've heard of Jihad Geese before.

Watch the air!!! They are coming back!!!!!!
DUCK
DUCK THAT DUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
IT's AFLAC!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm looking at the picture of the plane in the water and am thinking, "Boy, it pays to sit in a First Class seat--I hope those people back in cheap seats know how to swim."
I tell ya, some pilots will do just about anything to get a seaplane rating...
Look at it this way: If the impact doesn't kill them the pollution in the Hudson will!

Here's another employment/profit opportunity: screening all birds for "suspiciousness" before they take off. I'm sure your Homeland Paranoia Agency is drawing up the contracts now.
Something will have to be done about all the migratory birds, too --- foreigners , some from Arab countries --- entering the US withoiut visas.

I agree. The flight crew did an amazing job of pancaking that plane into the water at a speed estimated to be around 150 mph. The plane didn't break apart, and part of that is because of the angle the plane hit the water, caused by the pilot. The plane continued to float for quite a while as well.
No one even seriously injured. This one will go down in history.
It is also fortunate that all of the rescue boats were equipped with ham radios modified to operate on marine, air, police, and news frequencies.

You're not assuming that 9/11 thing art thou? It's come to this; a flock of geese can't even get credit for flocking up a plane in flight. The nerve.
The pilot in command has a great resume of experience...which just got added to in a big way this afternoon. Great team effort by the aircrew, the passengers, all the boat drivers who responded, both private and public craft, and as many passengers (but no one on this thread) noted--the good Lord.

Seems the incident was caused by Canadian geese. This leads to a very important question.
Will the Brotherhood of UT's Local 559 declare this an act of terrorism by our friends in VE land?
Yes the NTSB stated it was a flock of Canadian Geese that took this plane down. Blaime Canada. Bush and Chainey planning the attack as we speak. Retaliation will be swift, as in the next five days!
We have all heard the flight assistant say, your seat cusion can be used as a flotation devise in the event of a water landing. Now we must ask, was this a crash or a water landing???
I am glad everyone was able to get out O.K. The Pilot and crew did a fantastic job and should be nationaly recognized for thier efforts.

We're preparing to respond. Beware of flying frozen chickens. Our animal rights folks won't allow us to use live ones.

Don't forget about arresting owners and operators of private vessels that got within the exclusion zone to pick up passengers!

If you want to give the Lord credit for the effort that saved all of those lives, then you have to include that he/she caused the accident to begin with.

WHO NEEDS a SAMS battery when you can just catapult a Frozen Chicken at an oncoming attack plane?
Actually, that is no joke too
I visited the Rolls Royce plant in Indianapollis, where they made the engines for that A320.
One of the tests they do on the engines is throw FROZEN CHICKENS into the spinning engine input to see that they can withstand a bird midair strike
USUALLY it works just fine. The chicken is BLENDERIZED!
Guess they need to use frozen GEESE now. They waste the engines!

The pilot is 57 years old with 19,000 hours under his belt and is facing mandatory retirement in 2 1/2 years.
Who do you want flying your next plane trip? I'll take the 60 year old pilot with tens of thousands of flight hours, thanks.
There's absolutely no good reason that a healthy pilot of 60+ years cannot continue to fly, especially with an equally as healthy co-pilot.

A couple of things:
The Dallas Morning News reported that one woman did suffer both legs broken. However, that was the worst of the injuries. Hypothermia was the most common thing. One person was trapped by water and had to be rescued by divers and one woman fell from a rescue boat and had to be pulled from the water.
The pilot was originally from Denison, Texas, which is about 60 miles north of Dallas. He learned to fly at age 14 (at the Grayson County Airport - former Perrin Air Force Base) and flew F-4 fighters in the Air Force. According to the article he is 57 years old and also owns a consulting firm in California that specializes in safety and accident prevention.

Oh really? I'd be glad to read of the flaw.
On the one hand thank the Lord for saving all of those people, but in doing so don't acknowledge his hand in creating the situation from which they needed to be saved?
Love to hear the flaw, which is certain to be that you can acknowledge God's hand when it suits you, but otherwise it is man's doing.
Don't bother! :D

Oh, you can fill up the 2 hours with all the loveydovey romance between passengers, the token Gay romance, the Captain and the Stewardess who had a falling out but because of the crash, fell back in love after he saved her life. The great courage of the guy who opened the door after conquering his fear of flying. The exciting moments aboard the ferry by a passenger who thought he lost his dog. SO SO many things to fill up a 2 hour slot of mishmash before any actual ACTION happens.

Is it true that the entire rescue operation was successful only because first responders depended entirely on amateur radio communication during the entire rescue effort?
Just got a short report on my cellphone.
According to maps of the incident, where the plane actually landed was in New Jersey, not NYC. Still in the Hudson river, but like 9/10ths of Ellis Island, it was in NJ.
Of course with "New York" Giants stadium in NJ and everything within 50 miles of the city being referred to the "NYC area" it is only natural for people to think the plane landed in NYC.

The skill of the pilot in bringing the aircraft down safely in the river showed the professionalism and ability of this man in an extremely difficult situation.
I was amazed to see how efficient the boats skippers were in taking off 155 people in such a treacherous situation. Mr Bloomberg the mayor should be proud of the people who work in New York and even more surprising was the speed in which certificates were handed to the people in the NYPD, fire service, ambulance and others for their assistance.
The "can do" attitude in action. Well done NY

It is a well known fact that Canada has been training Canada Geese to attack and take down airliners. Sulley did a great job. US 1, Canada 0. GO USA! Hey, I used to fly. My first solo was into a flock of freekin ducks. Scared the begeebers out of me. I pulled up and they flew down. Could have been worse. Remember the Brits tried bird (frozen chicken) testing with less than successful results until a Yank told them that they should thaw the bird before firing it into the windscreen from the air cannon!

The watery crash landing of US Airways flight 1549 with all 155 passengers emerging alive has been called a "miracle." Miracle? We see something even better: True competence by a well-trained professional...
...Competence. What a concept! We hope it catches on.
