Same here, I have put together many forums just for the fun of it. Some of them have taken off and other have not. My amateur radio forum...well lets just say it is just occupying space.:D

BTW I took a look at your forum and joined up. I wish I were at home because my grandfathers monitor is less than optimal. It looks good, simple and to the point.

Well thanks for the comment. That really helps.

I have only just started, but i don't expect mass membership to be honest. If i get more members, then there will be more forum topics. At the moment it is at a basic level.

I will keep it open and not tie the forum down with restrictions, but at the same time keep an eye on things.

I hope to get some more members from the UK, USA, ASIA, and... well all over the world, so i'll see what happens. The more people, the more input.

Forums and blogs are a fickle thing--and it seems not to matter how they are marketed. Some take off, some do not--and others go along fine and simply die in a year or so...

I have put together sites for myself and clients--and the results have varied depending upon the intended purpose. A couple years ago, I spent a month creating a ham site--with the intention of meeting a niche somewhere between eHam and QRZ. The idea was to have a place to discuss technical issues, allow the ARS community to write and post quality articles about radio related subjects and projects, and serve other needs.

A few joined, no one really participated. Here is the result:

Good luck with your site Caine. I will make the observation that the theme is far too busy and difficult to navigate for many hams--a clean, crisp design is suggested as "best practice" to attract a wide variety of users. Readability is also an issue, and white on a color base does not lend itself to that purpose. Think long and hard about who and what you are trying to attract--and make your design match those market segments.

Thanks for your input. I may be changing the sites theme in the not too distant future. I think it isn't too much of a challenge to navigate around the site, but compared to some, yes it does look quite 'busy'. If your new to pc's then maybe it might confuse some a little.

I checked your link to your site, and from what i can see its straight to the point, but maybe more for tech. As i am at foundation level here, i am not so great on a radios insides and i am sure alot are not either, so my site will just cover basic discussion on radio itself. It's paid up for a year so see what happens.
