One of his many news segment excerpts...

The most feared dude in all of Houston when it comes to reporting about restaurants/schools and their dirty deeds being exposed. Literally! :D

I remember him when I was a boy growing up in Houston in the early 80's and was saddened to hear about his passing just a year and a half ago.

Those of you not aware of this fella, prepare to be entertained. He was a legend in the Houston, TX area.

MAAAARRRRVINNNN ZZZZZINDLERRRR... EYYYYEWITNESS NNNEWS!!!

Marvin and the Chicken Ranch

He was the reason you looked forward to watching the news on Friday evenings. He will forever be missed and is a legend. Here is the last segment he did from his hospital bed.

I remember the Chicken Ranch report... Good times! :D

I think he would have been really well known had he been put on one of the major networks.

Marvin actually was the first "Consumer advocate" for TV. Marvin was smart enough to know the power of the camera and used it well. Marvin helped out lots of children with medical problems. Marvin would step in with the help of one of his "Angels" and the problem was solved. Usually with no cost to the patient. Marvin had a tremendous network built up of people he could call on for help. To my knowledge no one ever turned down his request for help. Marvin was the first to take medical teams out of the US, to 3rd world countries. Marvin's team was made up of some of the finest doctors drawn from Houston's medical center. The Houston doctors would educate the resident countries doctors with new procedures and techniques. This was the working model for the "Doctors without Boarders" program. Old ladies who had their gas turned off wrongly, bad car deals, social security screwups, Marvin handled them all and never for personal gain. Marvin would have no problem ruffling the feathers of anyone, including the big boys if he thought they were in error. Marvin had a kooky shtick with his hair, glasses and sign off which he would laugh at himself in interviews. Make no mistake about it, Marvin Zindler spoke volumes more with his actions then with his speech.

It must have been a treat to see him on TV. After watching the Hospital video, he seemed like kind that would latch onto a problem, like a pit bull, and wouldn't let go until it was resolved.

He sure help alot. I knew a doctor that helped out a lot. Dr. Spira until he retired. Old Jack Heard fired him. His contributors want him out. Old Marvin waved at me driving once. I don't even know why. Nice guy

To get to the 33rd level of the Stone cutters says a lot. Very few ever make it to that pinnacle. Marvin was one of the few that did live by the creed "Met on the level, left on the square."

Whats funny is most people don't realize that song they play "slime in the ice machine" was actually a three and half minute song by a local houston musical group called the "Elliot Walter Band".

The lyrics to the whole song when SOMETHING like this (to the best of my memory)

-----------------------------

You see I'm new in town just came to scope it out
came to find a job see what Houstons all about

So I checked into a hotel headed to my room
when my stomach starts growling better feed me soon.
So I ordered up some food ,flipped on the set and
saw this white headed dude who was shouting like a madman
and looked like mister clean.

He said spoil food in the freezer mouse dropping by the door and

SLIME IN THE ICE MACHINE.
SLIME IN THE ICE MACHINE.
He said slime in the ice machine
SSSS slime in the ice machine

I was so tired of driving I felt like I was dead
so I slipped into bed and started to dream
it was Friday the 13th and the whole scarey team.

There was Freaddy Krugar, jason and leather face
they were there in my room ripping up the place
there was axs and chainsaws and blood every where.

So I reached for the remote control there by the chair
and I kicked on the set just in time to hear him say
and everybody froze when said

Slime in the ice machine
Slime in the ice machine
He said slime in the ice machine
ssss slime in the ice machine

Marvin was one of a kind. We we would have relatives that would come down to visit us in Houston from Ohio and WV, they would become fascinated with Marvin's reports. They got a kick out of his closing statement MMARRRVIN ZINNNDLER, EEYYYEWITNESS NEWS!!!!

A couple of them said they wished they had someone like him doing these kinds of reports and being active back where they lived in communities like Mr. Zindler was. These kind of people come around once in a generation or two.
