Hey, just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I'm Andrew, KJ4ITQ, newly licensed ham from Clayton, NC. I do not have a radio yet but I can't wait to get on the air! One thing I definitely want to get into is ARES. And definitely want to make contacts across the ocean.

Welcome Andrew, KJ4ITQ. Hope you make lots of contacts.
Are you tech or general ag?
I remember when I became an AG and made that first contact. I called into a group on 20 meters. KD5QLG/AG One guy said "HEY, I hear an AG out there" They all made me feel very welcomed.

I'm going for my General Class test tomorrow (Saturday, 1/10/09). I've taken the sample tests here on QRZ and on eham.net and ace'd em all so confidence level is high for the real deal. I just hope I get the same acceptance that W5WPL got when I give that temporary AG suffix.:o
Me and my Kenwood TS-520S are ready to say HI!
Wish me luck.

I'm sorry Andrew, I got so wrapped up in myself I forgot to say WELCOME and CONGRATS!

Greetings, individual one. Congratulations on your license!

Is there a nearby shack you can borrow until you can get your own station set up? It's the best way to figure out what you need....or more importantly, what you might NOT need.

Hey kl7aj, you make a good point. I think I will try to contact a couple of the local hams here that I have heard already on the scanner and see if they would be so kind.

Hello Andrew!

To tide you over until you get your hands on a radio, check out EchoLink. It''s at least get you to some repeaters where you can listen and talk back. Maybe even find some groups and some places to get a secondhand radio :)

P.S. Thanks for all the warm welcomes. :)

One more thing fellas, To get the most out of this hobby. I suggest some day learning code. I find it very rewarding. I got my ticket in 2001. I found that Code Quick helped me the best. Learn to pound brass. Ya'll have fun :)
