Great idea but, as you state this is not a substitute for amateur equipment insurance such as the ARRL offers.

If anyone does not have equipment insurance, look into it. #It really gives one peace of mind to know that if your equipment is damaged or stolen, for ANY reason (includes acts of GOD), you can replace it at current market value and the insurance is cheap. #$ 10,000 worth of equipment costs only about $ 150 per year. #The formula is something like $ 1.50 for every $ 100 of value.

The insurance even covers your computer, computer equipment, printers, test equipment, rigs etc. #I believe it now includes antennas and towers too (maybe). #Check it out.

I agree that ItsBeenStolen is no substitute for insurance.

I don't believe that the existence of ItsBeenStolen will prevent anybody from insuring their equipment, though.

On the other hand, once I had a custom motorcycle stolen. I got a big wad of cash from the insurance company, but what I really wanted of course was my hog. I had put a lot of time into that thing. To me, it was worth much more than the cash I recieved, though the settlement was reasonable.

If I wasn't pretty sure that it was broken down and parted out within hours of being stolen, I'd list the scooter on ItsBeenStolen. It looks to be a good outfit, to me.

You're right about the ARRL insurance. It's hard to beat a deal like that.

Before buying any special equipment coverage through an outside vendor, you might check to see if the company that provides your homeowners insurance can place your gear on a schedule, which offers you more perils than your normal contents coverage. If they do, it is probably less expensive than $1.50 per $100 value. I sell insurance and that does not sound cheap to me!

Hi,
A few years back when I was in PA and had a little antenna farm, an ice storm did the following.

Pulled over a 60 ft tower with a 4 element beam and in the process pulled down a 40 meter dipole and 80 meter inverted vee and ended up on top of a 10 - 80 Vertical. I called my insurance company and all they asked for was pictures since I was going to rebuilt the farm myself for total value. They even offered to pay for installation of the destroyed items but I declined. Check with your home insurance agent.

I know a bit about insurance, having been in the profession for over 30 years, having the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation and Associate in Underwriting designation. My advice is to get the ARRL insurance. This way you will not be putting in a claim on your homeowner's. Two or three claims and you may find yourself cancelled. I have a $1000 deductible that discourages me from putting in small claims. You get a nice discount with a bigger deductible. Richard wn9ddv
