I live on Phuket Island, Thailand and am lucky enough to have a TS-850S. But do to signal problems at my QTH, I only operate mobile. The Kenwood is a big transceiver and I've slung it behind my car-seat. However, operating the unit is obviously very difficult (unless there is a passenger sitting in the back of the car!).

I want to install this transceiver permanently in my vehicle. Do you think it might be possible to mount the unit front panel remotely from the base unit? I was thinking of installing the front panel onto the driver's door and then running cables back to the unit base unit.

Or is there any remote display/control accessory microphone? The microphone that I'm using does have up/down frequency control, but it's very easy to lose track of what frequewncy you are on..

Any advice is much appreciated.

Simon

PS - No chance to change this rig - here in Thailand, small HF rigs are rae as gold-dust.

I have one of those and I don't think there is any way of doing that. It does have provision for connection to a computer. Maybe someone out there could enlighten us as to this whether this would allow remoting the radio.

You might have someone trade you for the Kenwood TS-50 or Icom IC-706 series.
