Hi out there:

I always thought about what other hams at my age like most about our hobby and what they do else than ham-radio related things....

First off all, I wanna introduce myself a little bit.:

My name is Chris, born and raised in Austria, licensed since Apr.2006 and 18 years old....
My hobbies besides ham radio are hiking, skiing, traveling, survival training, cooking, mountain-biking and of course off-roading....

I´m absolutely keen on Contests especially those ones which lasts longer than 24 hours and constructing new antennas for portable and station operation.....^^

I´m also very much on tour with my FT-897 especially hiking on mountains where I´m QRV in QRP mode on 20m´s 10m´s and 6m.

Anyway.... Would be glad to hear from your hobby´s ......
Greetings from Austria,

Name here is Duncan, KU0DM age 13!

My favorite part of ham radio would have to be DXing and contesting. I'm not competitive by nature, usually very mellow when it comes to any competition, but hearing a new one on 17m, or running a contest really gets the blood pumping!

My favorite part of contesting, is after that all night run, when everything seems to slow. Then, as the sun begins to come up, 20m starts flying and you get a good opening to New England and Europe!

Outside of operating, I am very involved in Emergency Communications, and utilizing current technology for it. I'm currently the Rapid Response team coordinator for our county ARES, and am always thinking of how can we make our response more effective, faster, better. I also do the same for equipment and repeaters, what can we get to work better, longer, get the most distance out of while not sacrificing reliability.

I'm also in Boyscouts, so am working on also being able to take my FT-897D (great rig isn't it!) portable, currently working on an NVIS antenna for 40m.

That's all I have!

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, and manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for two days in a row. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook thirty Minute Brownies in twenty minutes.

I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Bolivia. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I am the subject of numerous documentaries.

When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my garden. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. Last summer I toured Eastern Europe with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration.

I run the 100m in 9.65 secs. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me. I am one of those fortunate individuals that have no body odors whatsoever. I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening.

I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only some vegetables and a Breville Toaster.

I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in Madrid, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and chess competitions at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

Name's Kailey and I'm 20. Got my license recently after being interested for a long time. I love the digital stuff. I stay on APRS a lot, even though I have some difficulty with it. I have a little difficulty hearing (some days are worse than others), so it's a great way for me to stay in the hobby. :D My grandfather was a ham and I've always been interested, just never been able to get into it. I also enjoy music. I play guitar for a local band and love every minute of it. I also play some video games at night.

Its a family hobby and my grandfather is responsible for getting me interested.
To be honest my favorite mode of operation is SSB but I enjoy listening the most.

As for other hobbies I have none, they are all addictions, lol.:p
Collecting guns and knives is a hobby that is also family influenced.
I also enjoy reading, writing poetry, and listening to music.
I have recently got into sampling wine, fine coffee, and cigars.

Fab is certainly a character, I enjoyed reading that.

I am a lot less exciting. As for what part of radio I enjoy the most, I will have to say contesting. I started a few years after I got involved with radio and have loved it ever since. I can't wait for upcoming contests now that I have weekends off and am making more money and have a car instead of a gas guzzeling van I can actually start to go guest operate more often.

As for my other interests, I am interested in computers, politics, music, food, UFOs, travel, movies, and I love to read whatever I can get my hands on.

Well i'm 26 and i enjoy operating VHF and UHF and also experimenting with digital voice on VHF and UHF(P25) and i also like to experiment with the not-so-popular bands 900MHz and 220MHz.

I am a huge collector of Motorola commercial radios and aside from radios my other hobbies include Ford Mustangs, car shows, guns & shooting. I also like to play around with emergency vehicle lighting and other bright lighting devices.

I like building, from metal fabrication, to PCB work. I got the bug when I needed equipment and I couldn't afford it, so I built it. Later, after I could afford it, I just got enjoyment out of making something from scratch and having it work. Love building antennas and tuners/coils.

Also like working on my 92 Buick Roadmonster.

I'm Andrew, KC2PMW

I have been licensed since April 11, 2006. My favorite part of ham radio is public service and EmComm (Field Day). My dad is a volunteer firefighter so get some of the public service/emergency service from him.

Outside of ham radio, I like photography (amateur), computers (amateur, but want to move up), and I manage the swim team at school.

I'm Connor, KE5VOY.
I'm 15 and was licensed in July 2008. What I like most about the hobby is its public service opportunities. I love being able to go help out at the EOC and storm chasing. I do all this while also juggling Varsity Football, which practices until 6:15 every day and choir, which is also in full swing during the fall. Can't wait until spring storm season where I could actually get out and spot.

I have built my own 40m qrp transceiver, but I use my yaesu ft 857d.
I really like cw... that's what I usually operate (straight key!).
Some of my other hobbies are hiking, electronics experimenting, reading, chess, music, and trying to not do my homework.

What I like most about ham radio is being able to communicate with people without a "middle man", such as a cell phone provider, so if a disaster occurs it won't effect the ability to communicate with other HAM's.

One of my other hobbies is digital photography!

Let's see ....... I'm 44 years old (45 in Nov) and I enjoy meeting new people on the air, contesting, CW and most recently digital modes.

Outside of Ham Radio I am a retired Corrections Lieutenant from the State of New Jersey last working at East Jersey (Rahway) State Prison. I am retired on an accidental disability pension after 15 years of service as an inmate attempted to end my life which left me with a severe head injury and several herniated discs in my back.

I enjoy Photography, I am also a semi-pro musician playing Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Midi Foot Pedals playing keyboard parts with my feet and caring for cat's who are sick. My worst was a cat named Figaro who was a tuxedo cat who had breast cancer on both sides and was for 5 years an Insulin dependent Diabetic. I currently have all healthy cats (3) and plan on starting to foster pregnant cats and possibly giving a nice home to elderly cats who are in rescue shelters.

If you want to see pictures of a cat post breast cancer surgery you can email me at ws2l@qrz.com

I must warn you though the pictures are not for the faint at heart.

My favorite part of HAM radio has to be talking to all my friends on 2 meters, and work the few 10 meter frequencies that techs have voice privileges on. (28.0 - 28.3). Other than HAM, I am a solo endorsed Glider pilot, and am in the process of learning to fly Helicopters and Single Engine Fixed wing. :)

I'm 23, and I got into this hobby because I've been learning electronics, and radio since I was a kid. My Dad works in the Commercial 2 Way radio Business, and I pretty much picked up everything I know from him, and from other Hams. My other hobby is bicycling.

I'm 15 years old and just upgraded to General Class earlier this year... I have to say, the best part of Ham Radio is the thrill of communicating with far-off places without the internet and with just a radio and a wire in the attic (There's nothing quite like the thrill of your first HF contact - my first was breaking a pileup in Honduras with a wire dipole and 25 watts out! :D) I also enjoy chatting on repeaters in my area and listening to various nets.

As far as other hobbies go, I enjoy playing piano and trombone, as well as computer programming and other electronic activities.
