Have had the Ten-Tec 6n2 for two months now. The radio has to be the best all mode I have every owned. #Get repeated comments on the audio quality on ssb #as well as fm. The receiver is just plain super. Programming the radio is super easy. #I plan to use it for mobil as well. #The large seven segment displays beat the dickens out of my other mobil rigs for legibility in various light conditions. #Since I have two shacks, I plan to get another one. #Six meters transmit audio is exceptional along with the great receive. Receiver selectivity, in my opinion, is much better than the mobil rigs out there that work six meters and two meters. #All in all, the best bang for the buck if you want to add six meters and a two meter all mode to your shack.

An extra class friend of mine had a chance to play with two different units of this model, right after they became available. He said "quite frankly I wouldn't have one" and that was good enough for me. We have heard since that they fixed the bugs that plagued the first releases, but it would keep me from buying a used one until I could check it out and see whether it was a first release or the corrected version. Neither he nor I have had a chance to check out the newer ones yet.
For the original poster; I hope you got one of the later releases and it serves you well over the years. I think they just suffered from new model syndrome, which usually gets worked out by the second year's model release. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

This is why I try not to buy the latest thing on the market. Let them work the production line bugs out first. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

When Ten Tec first announced this radio I got enthusiastic about the possibility of purchasing one, but wanted to wait until there were some in the field to get some opinions on performance, and read the reviews in QST, EHAM, QRZ, CQ, etc.

Although the reviews published in the general ham magazines were mostly favorable, I have not heard an overwhelming amount of good comment about this radio from people who have it or in the individual reviews that have been published. Generally I hear " it is ok, but I wish it did this" or, "how could have they left this feature out" or, "the receiver is deaf".

As I have not used the 6n2, I can not speak from experience although it seems to me that for just a few dollars more one can purchase a 706mkIIG with shipping (under $735) or a FT-100D (a bit more than the 706) with more basic capability on VHF than the 6n2. I think that Ten Tec had the right idea, but did not follow a planning process of how the 6n2 would be used by the amateur community.
