Does anybody Know of a way to change the back light color on the Yeasu FT-7800. I know that the more expensive models have a selectable back light color and the 7800 doesn't, but maybe some one has seen or heard of a mod. Could it be as simple as swaping out the LEDs?

Hi,
I think that it can't be much more difficult than locating the current LED used, then swapping it with a new one.
The part that I would be a little apprehensive about would be the actual opening of the front plate, and trying to get a very fine soldering iron into the small gap to remove and replace the lamp.
I wanted to do the same thing with my 2m Alinco rig, but backed out when I saw how packed in tight everything was!
Sorry I can't give you any practical advice, but just be aware that you might put heat where the rig doesn't like it - or get tiny springs flying out from behind switches when you dismantle the front plate.
Good luck anyway!
Cheers

I have always preferred flourescent displays to LED. First they are far brighter and they also offer different colors for different functions. Just a better display IMO.
As for changing the LEDs to change colors, the problem is they usually arent normal LEDs but a special flat panel LED. Finding one the right size and different color would be problematic
