Chances are the guy didn't even pay attention to who it was or where they came from. He wanted to go out and wanted to make sure people would notice when he did. We have this kind of thing happen all the time right here in this country American on American. Let's not turn this into something it isn't.

WTF? That statement makes about as much sense as a frog without a watertight butt!

You compare an American on American example to a nutcase going berserk on a tourist and shanking him.

I don't get the reference.

It's quite messed up though.

Well, in prison, phone books make great armor.

And I'm sure there is plenty of room in the "Roo" suit to stack up them phone books.....

First it was not a comparison. It was a way of showing that things like this happen regardless of the nationality of the attacker. Yes, we have plenty of nutcases right here in this country.

How is what I said "quite messed up?" I would think it more messed up to assume that the reason this happened is because the victim was American. I would think it more likely to be a random crime by a nutcase that would have happened regardless of who the victim was.

Stating that we have things like this everyday where both the attacker and the victim are American may be "quite messed up" unfortunately it is also fact.

Personally I don't see a difference whether it is a nutcase attacking a tourist or a nutcase attacking a fellow citizen. When a person ends up dead it is just as bad either way.

To think I thought ya'll like them "Skritchin' pits" or whatever they called 'em in that episode.....

RJD, I agree on the end result. However...... it's not like there's a shortage of Chinese in the crowd and the guy did attack a couple of tourists.

Maybe so, just not enough info to say for sure. I was trying to deflate the "They did it because the world hates us" crowd.

Since America is the biggest customer of China, and consider the fact that crimes against foreign visitors in China are met with double penalties, I would have to say China is very happy we are there.

Unless you are trying to practice your faith. In that case you could be killed. As have dozens of priests, missionaries, and the faithful.

China still has a long long way to go in regards to human rights.

I notice the press was quick to tell us the attack was random. I'm not going to say if it was or it wasn't. The attacker killed himself before he could be questioned. How convient.

Agreed KIX,
Not to mention 205 nations, untold thousands of visitors other than of Chinese decent and it all boils down to one thing, an attack on one nation "USA", with affiliates to a very popular Chinese sport...Volleyball. Now I'm not saying it was deliberate, but it sure downplays the so called "Random" theory. I'm sorry but it's real tough for me to jump on the reporting bandwagon of a nation that has a horrible track record regarding the USA in the past. :(

Curiously this wasn't well reported here but even our local newspaper had pictures of George Bush fondling some shapely women belonging to the US volleyball team in Beijing.

How could this turd know that this was the coach's father in law? Was he carrying and waving a big sign in the correct dialect of Chinese saying "Shank me_ I'm a Volley Ball Coach's family member?" Why must it be a political statement by a martyr in training. Hell,we all look alike to them any way. Were these the only round-eye tourists around at this attraction? Tourists in any large city (including those in our own "culturally sensitive" country) are readily targeted as easy marks. Crooks and wackjobs are equal opportunity offenders with their own agendas all over the world. Why not stick to 9-11 and UFO conspiracies that have a higher degree of "plausibility" (sarcasm intended) than this sad event?

This is a very sad tale...
The Bachmans were known here in southeast MN, because their daughter Elizabeth 'Wiz' Bachman was the star of the short-lived professional volleyball team that was here in Rochester.

No, but he was an American wearing a volleyball pin on the lapel of his jacket,
accompanied by a former American Olympic Team Member.

Lots of people attending the Olympics wear a variety of lapel pins. Collecting them (plus trading and wearing them) is a popular and international hobby. Unproven hypotheses are little more than personal opinions and mere conjecture - many containing their own biases and everyone has at least one - much like a rectal opening. Show me some recognizable evidence of conspiracy or at least collusion of planned and organized violence and I will gladly retract my view and actively support yours. Under International law, like our own jurisprudence, innocence is presumed until proven otherwise. Wack-jobs, loonies, and singular malcontents exist in every population center of the world and are a frequent source of urban violence.

No hypotheses, personal opinions, or conjecture here. Only facts.
1.He was American
2.Attacked and Killed by a Chinese person in China
3.Wearing a volleyball pin on his lapel, in the accompany of a former American Olympian asscociated with volleyball.
4.He is dead
There hasn't been any mention of conspiracy, covert plots, collusions or organized violence suggested by anyone in any of the posts on this thread.
Interpretation of what is posted in a thread is most likely perceived by each ones own personal bias, yours is very clear by your statement. So perception should also be included in your allusion to rectal openings.

Is it possible that the unfortunate incident could have occured if the pin has not been present? Without this proven causal link, or having some insider information we do not posses, you are guessing just like the rest of us. I accept my biases and perceptions (or misperceptions) collected over my many decades. Do you? Abandon your slightly elevated ground of expressed self-righteous indignation and just admit that you're guessing like the rest of us: or reveal your source of the causal linkage between the attack and the USA Team pin. Could this individual simply been mentally unbalanced or distraught over something unrelated to the American Team?

Lighten up, this is merely a discussion of an application in the study of logic. You're entitled to your opinion. I simply wish to hear all of the facts before codifying my own (for which the Chinese government may never reveal).
