The whole presentation was first class.

We have very high expectations of our friends in England for the 2012 opening ceremonies.

All the Brits need do is provide greasy, cold fish and chips with some warm stout on tap and I would be happy. Let their taxpayers keep their money. Britain has nothing to prove.

For those with DirecTV, you can find the Olympics on USA (# 242) and several other channels, including 750 through 756.

While tuned to 242, press the red button on your DirecTV remote. A window will pop up showing several other channels and a schedule.

Use the up/down buttons to highlight a channel and press "Select". A schedule for that channel will appear on the right of the menu. Use the right-arrow button to access the schedule, and the up/down buttons to scroll through it. The left-arrow button returns control to the channels listings.

Pressing the red button again will exit the window.

Particularly recommended is Women's Beach Volleyball!

Don't hold ya breath fella's ! I don't think that our finest in London would have the imagination and talent to design anything comparable to the Olympic opening ceremony in Beijing. As a matter of interest it took seven years to replace Wembley Stadium, constructed by an Australian company at a cost of £750 million. It could have been constructed on the oustskirts of Birmingham in the middle of England in three years for £250 million, but the London mafia insisted it was re-built in London. But hey, whose going to worry about £500 million !

We are up to our ockers in debt so the Oympic Games in 2012 will open with two thousand hookers brought in from all over Britain dancing the Dance of the Seven veils to the Band of the Royal Marines. This will be followed by a demonstration of the Association of Olde English Morris men who will dance to bells and whistles of the Ancient Order of Foresters, while banging their sticks together decorated with fluttering garlands, during their gay dances.

After that the jousting will begin and the ceremony will close with a fly over of a Hawker Hurricane, a Spitfire, a Handley Page Lancaster bomber and the B-17 Superfortress of the WW2 Flight and the Red Arrows with some coloured smoke. Let the Games begin.

Yeah, but you already have two of the world's best venues for Equestrian competitions, Badminton and Burghley! The Equestrian facilities for the Olympics are among the most expensive to erect and staff.

Britain has nothing to prove and any show they put on will be greatly appreciated. If the royal family is portrayed however, I will likely want to avoid that.

I thought the opening ceremony was pretty cool. Even if the fireworks were faked, it looked good on my TV set.

I watched a bit of it last night. One of the top US female gymnasts, Shawn Johnson, is a fellow Iowan, and is by all accounts a pretty normal kid with pretty normal parents. She goes to high school in West Des Moines, and other than being a great gymnast, leads a pretty normal life. Her coach in Des Moines is a former Chinese gymnast, and this is his first trip back to China since he emigrated to America. Anyway, she looked good last night in the opening round.

The Direct TV thing is cool. The interface that tells you the sports schedules and real-time medals count is pretty neat. Of course, it's preventing me from doing any yard work, house work, or any of the other 50 things on the honey-do list.

Well, you may not be far off on that! :D

I did really like the floor scroll thing they did, very impressive. Looked great from a distance.
