I had originally decided to not watch the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing but since my wife turned it on I decided to watch it for a "few minutes". We watched it on HDTV and it was absolutely fascinating and i watched it all. I just couldn't believe the amazing technology, the sychronized pyrotechnics and just as important - the fact that they had over 22000 people choreographed perfectly.

I don't know where the next Olympic site will be located but all I can say is that China has raised the bar for the rest of the world.

Forget about lead paint, Tibet and the monks, human rights and crazy large export of sub quality goods... the opening ceremony was AMAZING! I watched part of it in 1080i and was quite impressed.

It was made more enjoyable knowing that all of us paid for the production.

The opening ceremonies were absolutely fantastic. Probably the most spectacular in the history of the Olympics.

Unfortunately as is usually some moronic American TV commentator had to spoil it. The Television commentators I was listening to should be tarred and feathered and then banned from the Olympics for life. They defiled the spirit of the Olympics by continually making political commentary's throughout the entire parade of nations. I was absolutely stunned that anyone could totally ignore the the spirit of the Olympics and be so arrogant as to use the Olympic opening ceremony's as their political podium. Like I said they should be tarred and feathered!

In observance of QRZ's "no politics" rule, I will not be saying anything about the tendency for fascist governments to legitimize themselves with impressive public display. I will further remain silent about the humbling power of the fireworks effect of "giant footsteps" walking across the Earth while many of the World's leaders sat captive to the spectacle. If it were not for this rule, I would comment at some length.

Ha! Glad you didn't say anything.

One cannot help but admire the technology, even if Americans paid for a lot of it. As for fireworks, they were very impressive, but after all, the Chinese invented them.

This may sound like I'm mean mouthing but it makes me wonder if this is why everything else has all gone to "pot" - they are (were) spending all there time & resources on THIS!

Interesting note on Olympics countries and their official language.
