Looking at all the great new radios with all the new scanning features I started to wonder about all the hams that might be like me.I started Listining to short wave on a Waterson multi-band radio. On am it was grand old opry.Amos and andy. The shadow to name some.On short wave it was the whole world on that dial. I would sit and slowly twist on that tuner...lol..In the summer i would go out and pour water on the ground to get better sound.I later got a halicrafters.I must have turned that vfo a million rounds.Anyway now I still love to twist on the vfo.One finger round and round slowly listening for the sound of a old friends voice In the static.Or looking to meet a new one.I have met many wonderfull people here and i would not change a thing...bill :)

ZNX:

After I discovered that my right wrist was starting to "grow" I sold my R-390A and acquired a 51J-2! The J-2 still has great calibration but is MUCH easier on the wrist.

I guess I started listening to the old radio shows in the late 40s with my older cousin.
Today I don't use a scanner at all. Tried it but not crazy about it. I have had band scopes and not used them much either.
My radio can move fast enough for me spinning the dials in a couple different modes.
In the Army we searched for stations spinning the dials. It worked then and it works now for me.

I have a Hammarlund HQ-129X that would be in pretty good condition if it weren't for a KNOB TWISTER! Some clown sat there for decades and twisted them back and forth, back and forth, rubbing ALL THE PAINT away from the area around the knobs. So now the panel needs repainting and relettering, at a cost far more than the radio is worth!

MHZ:

There are replacement front panels for the HQ-129X available for well under $100. An HQ-129X in very good to excellent condition generally go for in the $250 to $300 range. Now one in poor to fair condition is not worth much. However, if they can be restored the receivers are still a pretty good investment.

At the risk of being banned for life (please moderators, I know this is pushing the envelope, but I'm trying to do it in good taste) I submit this very old radio related joke for your pleasure.

So let's get this straight. You know you will likely receive a time out at the minimum yet you post it anyway?

See you in a week or so, enjoy your vacation.

You have finally earned my admiration if not respect.
