It is a sad state of affairs that situations exist that it post like "One-way propagation, Being ignored on local repeaters", "Profanity on 80 Meters, Interception of Irresponsible QSOs", and numerous other post that show a faction in our society that lack respect for others. Even those of us that are for the most good people may at times forget our place and step out of line.
I wish there was some way to make everybody someone that everyone could look at as a role modle. But I don't think I will ever see this in my lifetime.
One thing that wouldn't hurt is to visit this web site, and try to follow the guidelines.

While you are at it, check the rest of his site. I have been listining to him for years on commercial radio, and for the most part, I agree with what he has to say.
Thanks for taking the time if you visit his site.

The remarks to attidudes should answer all your questions as to why amature radio has sunk to the level it has.

Did you hear the one about the ham who had dyslexia so bad that he actually spelled "amateur" correctly? :-)

What has making a mistake when spelling amateur have to do with attitude and courtsy in the ham bands? The only mistakes i was concerned about in this hobby was when i took my test before the fcc many years ago, then trying not to make one on the air as there were many fcc monitoring stations .Sorry about that,i coulden't resist.

RNA:

I wasn't picking on you specifically. My overall point, which I thought was clear considering the subject, was that we are judged by how we communicate. When we can't spell Amateur then we have a hard time showing how important it is to those we are trying to educate. If it isn't important enough to spell correctly, then it can't have THAT much going for it.

If we as Hams are going to show an attitude and posture of being of value then we need to clean up our own act first. IMHO that includes being able to spell the name of our Service/hobby.

That comment goes double for Georgie Bush, who ain't the brightest bulb in the chandelier. His father's Supreme Court appointees' helped him win the White House, and his grandfather was a well-known Nazi sympathizer.

This proves it don't matter which side of fence you sit on in politics (Liberal, Conservative,Democrat, or Republican), THEY'RE ALL CROOKS!!!

It's at times like this that I yearn for a good "code versus no-code" message thread. It's at times like this that I yearn to read whiny "all you white, middle aged guys hate young black hams" messages.

Please. Politics are done to death. Not here, I beg you.

By the way, George Bush won the 2000 election and all 876 recounts. It's done. Time to build a bridge and get over it.

Out.

I'm still having a hard time with the concept of spending many millions of dollars to get into a position that pays at best a quarter mil a year, then provides protection for life when the term's up . . .

yes, character does count, and so does credibility, there is not one report or investigation from the liberal news media that proves bush did not win the fla. election. you can be sure the new york times would have it front page if that were the case.

Before TRUE charactor can count, people have to learn how to handle Truth.

Problem is most people would rather listen to what they want to hear instead. That means the ones that tell people what they want the hear have the best charactor in a lot of cases. The only time that things are different is when you are business. People that tell the truth are given limited praise, but are usually look at as being mean, and having a bad attitude.

As far a POLITICS goes, here is a concept for you.

1. We do not live in a democracy, we live in a republic. That means that instead of us as individuals being involved in making a decision, we elect people who we feel will make decisions on our behalf. Problem is, it is a lot easier to manipulate that one person, than it is a mass of people. That is why most politicians are crooks. Lobbyism is another big reason that Politicians are crooks also.

2. I am sure there are many people on here that are members of a Fraturnity/Sorority. What happens when a politician is a member of a lodge for fraturnity, and has to enforce a policy that may effect his frat brother?

3. Socialism. No I am not a communist, but in order for our government to work like WE want it, we have to participate in it. Problem is, socialism never comes into effect till something is terribly wrong. So, we go on being concerned about our houses, cars, and little trinkets not thinking about our neighbors, or about what is really going on in government.

4. If anyone ruins our fun, they are a crook? Come on now. What if ruining our fun to a point was in our best interest?

Having charactor in things other than business deals is something I would like to see. That way we can find out who the people are that have the REAL bad/snobby attitudes. But it all starts with who we are looking at in the mirror, and how we chose to deal with our place in the world.
