View Full Version : 6 meter transceivers ???

All,

I purchased a Yaesu FT-680 from e-bay last year and it was my first foray into 6 meters for this ham. It was a blast!! I had a ball with the 10-watt FT-680 to a loop, so I know that when the band is open...that was enough power to have fun.

However, it just up and died on me a couple weeks ago---sent to a technician and he confirmed it was gone.

So....after checking on the internet, it seems that the only dedicated 6 meter multi-mode transceiver that I can find "new" for under $400 is the Ranger models (5054DX & 5054DX-100). Ranger also is offering 'refurbished' units for even less.

Am I missing something, or is that the only option for me?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

They aren't new, but the kenwood TS-60 is a nice little radio. They have All modes and 100watts. Finding a HAM willing to give it up may be a chore though. (I love mine)

Norm,

Yes, I did a little research on that rig after you recommended it......NICE!!

Oh, well......hope you continue to get years of enjoyment from yours. I have had my FT-757 GXII for over 20 years now, and happy as a clam with that HF rig.

So have you sent it to someone for a second opinion?
I cant believe it is dead. Unless it took a ligning hit.

Buddy,

Yes, I sent it to a very reputable technician that I trust (http://www.amateur-repairs.com/ ).

He confirmed it was gone, and parts too hard to find/replace----would cost more than I paid for it off of e-Bay.

Thanks for the reply!

All,

Thanks for the advice and comments.

I made my decision, and purchased a refurbished 5054DX directly from Ranger. It's on its way via UPS.

Anxious to get back on 6 meters with twice the power I had before!

Hi, you might wanna look out for the Icom IC-575H. It's a dual band 10m and 6m all mode rig that puts out a solid 100W on both bands. It has pass band filtering, notch etc... Very nice late 80's - 90's rig. I love mine!
