Hi all.... I just got an email from a credible source with the following:
Keep An Eye Out For A STOLEN Cessna 206, N5311U
REWARD OFFERED!!
Pilot (email me) says that his Cessna 206 N5311U, has been stolen.
Dennis Brown, of AKLAND HELICOPTERS, INC is located in Estes Park, CO and
has offered a $5,000.00 reward for its recovery.
The plane was last seen in Texas and Brown's reward offer is "No questions
asked. I just want it back."
FMI: Phone: (email me). Fax:(email me). E-Mail: epco@charter.net
This is being posted around.... I have replaced some information with (email me) - to protect the pilots privacy
This is most likely not a hoax so if you work on an airport or somthing keep an eye out....

Re: Stolen Cessna. Vinnie, why does the owner think the aircraft might be headed towards Phoenix, Arizona?

Dumb question..has this been reported to the police?
or..is it repo'd?
Before we call out the calvery, inquirying minds want to know.

Why would anyone want to steal an aircraft?
The reasons are two (probably) and quite obvious.
For Parts.
To run drugs across the border.
I hope they had insurance on the aircraft?

How about as a terrorist weapon!
See below NOTAM issued 12-19-0:
FDC 1/3352 - ... SPECIAL NOTICE ... FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, PURSUANT TO 14 CFR 99.7, SPECIAL SECURITY INSTRUCTIONS, OPERATIONS WITHIN THE TERRITORIAL AIRSPACE OF THE U.S. THIS IS A RESTATEMENT OF A PREVIOUS ADVISORY. PILOTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID THE AIRSPACE ABOVE, OR IN PROXIMITY TO, SITES SUCH AS NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS, POWER PLANTS, DAMS, REFINERIES, INDUSTRIAL COMPLEXES, MILITARY FACILITIES AND OTHER SIMILAR FACILITIES. PILOT SHOULD NOT CIRCLE AS TO LOITER IN THE VICINITY OF SUCH FACILITIES.
Also, notice was given from governnment to aircraft owners and airports to secure your aircraft for above reason.

I myself and a "few other people" including Vinnie are looking for this aircraft and it was stolen {for what reason? It is worth some money I know that much} Chances are it has been reported to the police {I am almost sure the police are aware of this} and what Vinnie figured was that someone reading this post may work at an airport and may find this plane. The location of travel is unkown for this aircraft and it would help to have a few extra eyes out there looking for it. Thanks a lot and 73!

I'd bet the aircraft has been reported stolen....
I'd doubt the aircraft was repo'd because I think a company owns it, and even if it were repo'd wouldn't the repo comany call after doing the repo or give a written notice?

What is the connection here to ham radio about a stolen aircraft? Is it because the postee is a ham? I dunno.
I guess we will start seeing stolen car postings soon.

It has been my experience that all the sites I go to have many hams.
Flying, SCUBA, robotics, OOPic, bus converters, sailing, R/C - technical hobby boards are crawling with hams, and every one has a board god ( especially obnoxious at http://theoak.com/wwwbb.html ) who decides what will and won't be posted. But doesn't have "Moderator" after his name.
I'll keep an eye open for your bird. And I'll see you at the Flying, SCUBA, robotics, OOPic, bus converters, sailing, R/C boards I hang out on.

For WH:
Just retired from Rockwell Collins after 31+ years, the last 27 in aviation. Of the last 27, almost 19 were in Avionics Field Service. I have worked with many flight departments over the years and amazingly enough, I would bet that over 60% of the people involved, whether pilot or maintenance, were hams.
Pretty big audience. A lot read these sites and even more scan the skies looking.
Hope the aircraft is located. Insurance is not the issue. Personal pride in your bird is.
