He has a grin like a used car salesman.

It's my understanding that his father started the church that he now heads. My wife and I have watched bits and peices of his sermons. He is very upbeat and believes that good things happen to good people....very big into the power of positive thinking.
I have noticed the eye movement as well. perhaps he has a dry eyecondition or a sensitivity to light.

Here's another one, it seems they pop up all over when some fall they rise. I have seen his books in Barnes and Noble etc. Time will tell if he is just another carnival barker or not. I have only seen him for a short period.
I stopped watching all these guys long ago when the Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye along with, in my opinion, those like Jimmy Swaggart and other deceivers still pollute the airwaves.
I have no time for any of them and probably never will. Anyone who wants a 'relationship with God" can do it all by themselves, they don't need a mediator or interpreter to tell them what they can clearly read themselves and without the interpreters OPINION of what they have just read. What a joke.
Time to depend on YOURSELF, not some 'jive turkey' who "knows best for you" and considers you too stupid to understand the printed language. These 'self appointed saviors of interpretation' gotta go.
Besides, they ALWAYS come down to the $MONEY$ don't they? That, in my opinion, IS what they are about, not the preaching of the bibles' contents.
Thats my 2¢ and I am NOT donating it to 'them'

Same as dozens of others. "Televangelists" who suck in enough followers to pay for 1-2 hours on Television and keep it going.

Nice work if you can get it.

I'm thinking about starting my own religious radical group to see if I can get a huge following, then we can promote the use of big antennas on towers for all!

I'll call it the "Branch Yagidian."

Alternatively, maybe the "Branch Aluminum."

Contributions welcome.:)

I can only feel sorrow and pity for those sucked into such madness.

"God loves you!" Pay him back by sending a check to......

Yeah, right.

God needs money, that's a cool concept.

Only rabid preachers and televangelists could come up with such incredible nonsense.

But, they hook in the dimwitted, and continue to do so as long as there's a fresh supply.;)

I have actually written some of the preachers on tv. They keep telling me if I send them 100 bucks now, I'll get one million bucks back in Heaven. So I have truly written to a few and told them if they will send me 10,000 bucks now, I'll give them the one million when I get to Heaven. And I would, too. That's a pretty good interest rate, I think. Of course, you don't need money in Heaven, right? So they tell me the streets are paved with (worthless) gold. Yeah, worthless. What would you spend it on, if you dug up a chunk of it?

I have not had any encouragement in my endeavors. If ten preachers would each send me 10 grand now, I'd give each of them 10 million bucks when I get to Heaven. Even if I had to wash Jesus' sandals with my tongue to earn the money.

A few of those preachers say if I'll give them 100 bucks now, I'll get back ten fold in THIS life. If they'd put that into writing, I'd hold them to it. I'd send each of them 100 bucks, and expect 1,000 back from each of them. Real soon.

I can't see sending my savings to some dude on TV so he can live high on the hog. I can, though, see him sending his savings to me, so I can live a bit better. Or a lot better. I keep asking, but they don't do it.

Some of those guys (and gals - Paula White, for example) just suck in the money the way a tornado sucks up dust. Poor suckers send their last dollar to these guys and gals.

Funny thing, a lot of them are getting old, and have already had their fun. Paula White, for example. When she got too old to be wild, she became a preacher. A rich preacher. She finally found the winning racket.

Religious television is where all the long-ago-has-been country music stars and out of work actors, aging rock stars, go to try to recapture the field of being in front of the camera. But no one wants to hear their garbage. They are still stars in their own minds. And in the minds of the 90 year old widows sending in their life's investment checks.

If God is so smart, he doesn't need an interpreter like Olsten. He can contact me direct.

Actually and interestingly, Joel Osteen never asks for money in his televised sermons. I have watched many of his sermons and he seems very upbeat and genuine.

I agree. I am really not sure why this topic was started. I guess anyone can become a target at QRZ these days.
Maybe he is running for president of something.

::He doesn't ask for donations directly but solicits them via his website, as well as his many publications (books, CDs, etc) all of which are "for profit" items.

The reference to the website appear during the broadcasts.

The 16,000+ people who attend the sermons in Houston also give donations. It's a pretty successful money-making machine, a great example of free enterprise.

More like gullible. I have seen some very bright people caught up in this nonsence. The best example was the Heavens gate folks.

Heaven's Gate was the name of an American UFO religion based in San Diego, California and led by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles. The group's end coincided with the appearance of Comet Hale-Bopp in 1997. Applewhite convinced thirty-eight followers to commit suicide, which he claimed would allow their souls to board a spaceship that they believed was hiding behind the comet.

::So, did they ever board? How're they doing? I look around for the ship now and then but no luck yet.

Heaven's Gate ranks up there, alright, but the Jimmy Jonesthing proved how stupid people really can be. Drink your Koolaid, folks.

These are the infamous incidents, but you read in the paper all the time of things like Jimmy Bobby killing his wife and kids because they have been possessed by The Devil. Like the gal in Texas who did in her kids and is now serviing time for it. Happens in ever city around the nation. The super gullible, the mentally weak, doing God's work. Gotta erase those Devils and demons, and evil spirits. If you browse the news stories (the reliable news, not the internet junk that claims to be news) you'll find there are incidents every week, maybe twice a week, in which some idiot kills his or her family to eradicate the demons.

In what way do mentally ill people and murders link up with Joel Osteen?

Carefull...they will pounce on you like a piece of raw meat. I couldn't figure out why this topic was started, and then I read a blurb that John McCain mentioned one of Joel's books during an interview. Nuff said!

People start these threads for any number of reasons, why kavetch? Just read, and either enjoy it or don't. In my opinion I start a thread because I am interested in the replies good or bad and it chews up time, you know how it is with retired people like myself, we have too much time on our hands, well some of us anyway.
I still drive a lot to here and there, shop, browse the malls and stores and sit in here and BLOG chewing up more time. don't have to work and don't want to, even part time. This works for me and apparently many others. Specially the ones with 6000 plus blogs in here Holy Ka Moly talk about free time.
So I guess one answer is " If it works for you, do it" enjoy the time left on the planet.
So there ya go anyone else got any reasons for starting threads, reruns or not?
That's my 2 cents worth.
