What a damn ugly radio this is,it must rank as one of the worst styled front panels going.A friend recently bought one and I thought it had been involved in a accident. How could anyone put this monstrosity in their shack??

I ordered mine with the optional dual-sided, dual-element stand/holder. Holds it up off the desk, and is a pleasure to look at. What exactly is it that you don't like the looks of?

it's black, plain, symetrical, clearly labeled, large enough buttons, looks like every other piece of modern electronics. what's the issue?

To nyo,
If you have any extra side holders around, feel free to send them my way. They look good to keep the bottom of the radio from getting scratched up.
I knew my TS-2000 was missing an option!

I think REK is just a grouch, judging by some of his other postings. Or perhaps a troll (not the type from Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter).

YAWN... so don't buy one
Eh, to be honest, a rig's appearance never swayed me one way or the other. It is disappointing, however, that Kenwood seems unable or unwilling to come out with a new contest-class rig. The most recent contest rig offered by Kenwood was the TS-850S in the early 1990s.
(I guess you could count the TS-950SDX, but the "bang per buck" figure is a little low on it.)
I once had the unfortunate experience of trying to operate CW during a Field Day with a TS570. It was impossible! Without crystal filters, using only the DSP, the AGC got hammered every which way by near-frequency signals. i had to disconnect it and grab an old TS440 in its place!
I'm told the TS-2000 and the TS-870 have the same problem
Oh, for casual use the TS-2000 might be a joy, for all I know. I'm just talking about what I require from a new rig. Your opinion may differ! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Looks like an over priced toaster to me, perhaps they should stick to making those and save us all from the splatter they emit...
Amen brother this white elephant is a real joke for a radio. Right after they first came out I had a chance to use one for a weekend, nearby strong signals cause this thing to squat and take a dump. The front panel design looks way out of place in any shack. The side panel idea would greatly improve its looks. Yes I wonder when kenwood is going to come out with a real contest grade radio.
All they have to do is allow use of selectable crystal filters. DSP can only do so much. That's why I like my trusty old (1997) FT-1000MP. Hard to beat it. The design is from the mid-90's, yet Kenwood has not come out with anything better yet, contest-wise. If they did, I'd seriously consider buying one. Hey, I'm as open minded as the next guy! heh

The thing is Alexander it does not work, it spits out so much hash either side of the freq you are on that it makes it almost impossible for anyone remotely close to go about there business. I have one sat in front of me now and can honestly say I have not used it on HF in months as I don't wish to subject anyone to it spurious emissions, I mainly use it for 2mtr & 70cm FM. Believe me you don't wont one, I speak for at least 3 friends who purchased one also.

Well noted Mark,
I know it wasnt just bad luck that the ones we had were awful, The one Ive had on extended loan goes back Monday morning, that will be a shame because i will have to find something else to prop the shack door open with.

It's a poor tradesman that always blames the tools! Go back to your old gear, it's good, it's quiet, doesn't hear any splatter, doesn't hear the DX, only hears 9K2GS on 20M..at 5 and 5.....great old rigs!
Otherwise, learn to operate the new one....read the manual...don't plug it in turn it on....and expect it to work the bands by itself!....
