I always wanted to build a ham radio site at least to pormot this hobby to the people around this part of the world.

I will really approciate it if some one could help me with this matter.

My site is www.dxqsl.net

I know there are so many people around who would help.

Thank you and 73

Hi A71AN ,

That will allow for easier posting to the website. Otherwise whenever you want to add to the website, you will have to write up using HTML.

Go to http://wordpress.org/download/
It is a software which you put on the website which will allow you to just type articles and it will display on your website

My advice would be to find a local high schooler. Pay them some money, something modest, and have them build it while you watch. You will get four benefits:

1. You will learn how to make a website by watching
2. At the same time you'll have one done for you
3. And you'll know how to change it when you want to add things later
4. You'll make a kid happy for giving them money for something they can do with their eyes shut.

You might work a trade with the local high school, their help with a website in exchange for your radio knowledge.

Yes, help for a website can easily come from anywhere in the world, but it you really want to own your site you will want to know how to change it.

Good luck and enjoy!

I already paid a programmer and he put Vbltin software, I could not figure out what to do with it , so I deleted the whole site from the server.

bracehost given me the access for their system to build my site, as it is a premier one I tried but again it was very hard to do.

That's why I would get a high school kid. A programmer makes more money if you can't understand how to alter their sites. There's really no reason a ham radio site should have require any fancy vbltin (visual basic?) above straight html.
There are HTML editors / web site creators that basically look like the box you use to write a post here on QRZ. You type, then use buttons to make the text bold, or link to another site, or pop in a picture.

'vbltin' is VBulletin, essentially what the forum section of this site runs, it's a database/PHP powered forum engine.

Be careful with the WYSIWYG HTML editors, they tend to be excellent output engines for bloat and often times do not work well in cross-browser environments.

Wordpress may be a good choice, however, regardless of what you use be sure to keep it up to date else you'll be the victim of a script kiddies defacement or end up being used to host phishing content.

If you can set up a amateur radio station you can make a basic website. It is that easy.

A very easy to use editor is built into the Seamonkey browser. It is called Composer. You can build a website very much like writing a letter in MS Word or WordPerfect. You can drag and drop to some extent as well.

The hardest part will be familiarizing yourself with the software.

There are many online tutorials that are fairly good. As you work with building your website you will learn what each "tag" does, and how formatting works.

There are also tutorials that show you how to use Composer.

Installing wordpress requires a basic understanding of PHP, and a basic understanding of MySQL can be helpful, but not required.

Your webhost may have pre-installed programs, i.e. blogs, templates, etc, to help you get started. I would check with them.

Do you have a word processor such as Microsoft Word? If so, you can easily create a document with text and pictures and then use the "Save As" feature and click "Save as Web Page". This will create a html file that you can ftp (upload) to your web server.

Finding a web designer to design a page and keep it updated could get expensive. I don't know too many web designers who would do it for free. Designing a web page isn't difficult. Play around with it. You learn a lot and it will become very easy in no time.

Best,
Brian

If your web host does one click installs, it doesn't.

Rashed,

It would help if you know exactly what you want to put on the website.

Is this supposed to be a website for general ham radio information?

Or is it supposed to be for ham radio photos?

Technical articles?

Forums?

Let us know and maybe we can help you put together something.

If your web host does one click installs, it doesn't.

If you want to go beyond the basic templates offered by CMS software, knowledge of PHP is priceless.

Thank you my friend

Take a look at a program called Thingamablog. It is a blogging program that is so simple to use because all the heavy lifting is done on your home computer and all that gets uploaded to the server is html code... You type in your text that you want to display and the program creates the html.

My web page linked down at the bottom is built using Thingamablog. I went into the blog template to change the background image and add the menus but it gives you and idea of what is possible.

The Thingamablog web page is: http://thingamablog.sourceforge.net/

They have help forums for the program too.

Thingamablog does not use any on-server scripting (no PHP, PERL, java, etc.) or structured query language (SQL) so it is simple and secure.

If you want a program where you can post your thoughts and other information, this may be the way to go. Take a look at my page linked below to see how I did it.

Good luck my friend,
