Shouldn't it be permitted for two consenting adults to engage in a duel ? What right does the government have to prohibit men from retaining their honor via a well matched duel.
As muich as I hate violence I think it should be the right for men to challenge and if they chose accept a challenge to a duel. I see nothing wrong with dueling between two parties that have both consented to the duel and it's ultimate consequences.

I think enough dueling goes on here. But OTOH, are you talking about dueling to the death after choosing your weapon of choice? Stuff like that? If so, I don't think so, swords hurt.

Yes, to the death if it so turns out that way.. But ONLY under condition that both parties agree and this must be verified by some sort of affadavit signed by both parties in the presence of witnesses.

Well...........it would have to be swords or clubs. You can't own a gun in New York. :D
Maybe McCain and Obama could settle the presidential election in this fashion. Fighter jets at 10,000 feet.

Does it count if its the voices in my head dueling?
Duels are good buy, me as long as there are swords or knifes involved, preferably both. That way after you stab your opponent you can slit his throat and watch him slowly bleed to death. Maybe even sample the blood and judge the year. Nothing like the metallic taste of warm blood.

I predict that it would bring in a new age of politeness and a sharp decline in insults and name calling.
Accountability is an amazing thing.

Ok who is going to be Hamilton and who is going to be Burr?
Yeah like the anti-gun nuts are going to allow pistol duel, at sunrise.
Gentlemen take 20 paces, turn and face each other and fire, and may the best shot win.

White House rejects Bush-Saddam duel offer (http://archives.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/meast/10/03/iraq.bush.duel/)
Thursday, October 3, 2002
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House scorned an Iraqi leader's suggestion that President Bush and Saddam Hussein could resolve their differences in a duel, calling it an "irresponsible statement" that did not justify a "serious response."
The Iraqi leader argued that instead of going to war with Iraq, Bush should participate in a personal duel with Saddam.
"Bush wants to attack the whole Iraq, the army and the infrastructure," Ramadan said. "If such a call is genuine, then let the American president and a selected group with him face a selected group of us and we choose a neutral land and let Kofi Annan be a supervisor and both groups should use the same weapon."
"A president against a president and vice president against a vice president, and a duel takes place, if they are serious," the Iraqi vice president said. "And [U]in this way we are saving the American and Iraqi people."

There doesn't have to be a prohibition on dueling. It is covered under other laws like murder and aggravated assault. In most states, there would have to be a law that actually allowed it.

WOW, lately your right side has been showing.....Mac
And people don't know why dueling was banned?
Read a little of the English Common Law and some early US legal history!
Geez.
de K7VV
In Oregon, under Constitution Article 2, Section 9:
Section 9. Penalty for dueling. Every person who shall give, or accept a challenge to fight a duel, or who shall knowingly carry to another person such challenge, or who shall agree to go out of the State to fight a duel, shall be ineligible to any office of trust, or profit.–
So, while not illegal in a technical sense, you can't hold public office.
One presumes that this stricture only applied to the winner.
Since the loser is presumably, well, dead.
And that usually also precludes one from holding office......

Men shouldn't duel. It's stupid. Violence is only an end to more violence. However, should two adults select to engage in such behavior as dueling that should indeed be their right.
