The TS2000 is as close to the 'Universal Radio' concept as any that I have seen. #The Satellite features are great, as are the DSP, dual receive capability, built-in TNC (limited capabilities but very useful), etc..

Hi. I just obtained my code/tech license and am also considering ts2000 I have researched b ICOM between this and the ICOM 706 MKIIG. I am favoring the ts2000 because it seems to offer more filtrering and antenna tuner built-in...although after these are considered it is still a couple of hundred bucks more than the ICOM w/ accessories would be. My dead has a Kenwood (570-D?- multi-band unit that is 2 years old and he loves it) One of my considerations is that my neighborhood will require I use a stealth antenna. In fact I just posted a question on ts2000 and antenna-concerns within the past hour...and you may want to check it out to see the intellegent responses, which may be of help to you.

Stay in touch...good luck with the new radio californiajan@msn.com kg6oje

Have the Ts-2000 for a year now. Since I owned Kenwoods before, I am a little bias toward them. #

The radio has so many features that even though I operate daily, I still have to pull the manual out. #I like the sub receiver feature. #Thr preamp does make a difference even on HF for light signals. #Never had any complaints about my audio or being too wide. #It is an excellent HF rig and local UHF/VHF rig. #The satellite feature works but I ended up getting an Icom -910 for satellite and it does beat the TS-2000 on weak signal work for sats. #The thing that I liked about the sat feature was that you could put the ISS in memory with a 2 meter uplink and a 2 meter downlink. The Icom won't do that in sat mode but you have to put it in split memory. #For the price, it was worth it, though it is a strange looking beast compared to other rigs. #
