Just to let people know how High Sierra Antennas is doing business. I recently purchased the HS 1800 for use as a base antenna, after having problems with the motor inside, was informed to ship back and they would take care of the problem. I was told to make sure it was insured, they already said they would replace the internal motor when they recieved it. I was then notified that the entire antenna during shipping was damaged and warranty would not cover it and they would ship it back to collect insurance. I feel they are using the insurance so they are not out any money, for the warranty repairs. I just thought I would put out a warning for any unsuspecting people out there..

In all fairness I personally know 2 people who had trouble with the motor in a screwdriver and called High Sierra and they had a replacment motor in their hands the next morning. That's pretty good customer service so I guess it is different strokes for different folks. If it was shipped UPS that would explain a lot of the problem.........73, #ORV

Well I hope Someone else will add their comments. I am considering purchasing a screwdriver antenna for my tractor trailer so i can get back on HF. Been considering the HS1800 and the Bandhopper. The High Sierra is a bit cheaper so i was sort of leaning that way. I hope theres some other sort of good reports about them or bad for that matter. Don't want or need to make a bad decision

In the mobile shoot outs the 2 antennas that stand out are the Texas Bug Catcher and the Don Johnson screwdriver. Of all the screwdrivers I have looked into I 'm impressed with the construction of the High Sierra. One of the major points is the contactor to the coil. Most use brass finger stock brased to the antenna and presses against the coil turns. From a contact point of view this is very good, however the finger stock is tempered and very brittle, should it jam and break off you are in for major repairs. High Sierra has approached this problem in a different manner.A tightly wound spring is captivated in a trough and protrudes to contact the coil, The spring is held in place by a removable screw on cap.Should you have a problem simply unscrew the cap and replace the spring.
By the way I have no connection to High Sierra at least not yet I intend to buy the HS1800 and the automatic channel selector as a xmas gift to myself.......HIHI
Look around and compare in my opinion you can't go wrong with High Sierra . # Lots of luck...... # 73, # ORV
I have had my HS-1800 since it replaced the older 1500 earlier this year. I have had no problems whatsoever and the support I have received from High Sierra has been outstanding when I had questions on mounting, noise, etc.

I think people misunderstood my orginal message, I was told the High Sierra was a great antenna, I wanted people to know that when I had the problem they were going to correct the problem, but instead when shipped back they are now saying I need to pay another 150-200 dollars to fix it so I will have 800 dollars into an antenna that still might not work. I feel they should ship a new antenna to me and not make me go through the problem of insurance and shipping it back in forth for the third and fourth time. sorry for the misunderstanding, I though a warranty was to be fulfilled by the company not an insurance company
