Has anyone gotten a good taste of the Icom V8000? How is the receive? I was disapointed with my IC 2100H's front end overload/intermod troubles.
Does the rig scan faster than the 2100?(Memory channels and VFO) Looks like it would double as a good scanner for VHF.

I purchased my IC V8000 two weeks ago, found it easy to program and audio is excellent, and extra power lets me reach some repeaters I was unable to. Also all reports on simplex have been great. A thorough reading of the manual is a must.

I have a v-8000 and love mine. Ive reached my local repeaters 70+ miles away with great receive, with some inhancement during the summer months. But on average it performs great.75 watts is great when needed, also like the weather alert function. Also scanning is very fast with that rig. Also check eham on the reviews.

I purchased one about five months ago. Terrific radio, excellent features, great power and performance. The receiver is pretty hot, too. Tough as nails, and is the best 2-meter only rig I've seen. Would be nice if they gave it more modes than FM phone, but oh well. Buy it, you'll like it.

I just got mine several weeks back... My only complaint is that it does not have a 50watt power selection.. it's 75/25/10/5.
I have testing it in my vehicle at 75 watts on a diamond HV7A antenna, as well as a 5/8 wave workman mag mount antenna and it performs outstanding.
Using it in the house on a 12~15 power supply.. I was forced to drop to 25 watts since my supply lacks the needed 15watt continuous duty needed... (thats why I wish I could run 50watt..)
Over all, this is an outstanding rig..

I have owned my IC-V8000 for about 6 months now,I can honestly say it's a terriffic rig, the 75 watts is a little exaggerated mine puts out 72 watts, anyway the receive is awesome, the audio quality from the front firing speaker is clear and loud.....audio feedback that I have had is clear & loud.
I have made contacs 500 miles plus from my QTH..the radio is very easy to program using the supplied HM 133 mike.....i LOVE my V8000, I use it for local ragchewing and IRLP work..awesome!
The only little drawback..when running on high power for extended periods the cooling fan can be a little noisy (minor drawback). I love my V8000...I just wished that Icom made the New IC-2720H alpha numeric.
anyway this was my 2 cents worth.

This little rig is built like a tank!!!!!!!! It has a nice mic that controlls every thing on the radio except the vol. although the mic will let you mute the audio. the problem that people had with the low audio has been rectifyed by i com the recieve in this rig is to hot to describe have not had the same problems that the 2100
has yet with imd. tx on this little rig is outstanding power levels are 81 w/15 volt,73 w/14 volt,67 w/13 volt but the thing that gets me is this rig does all this with 1 pa final that is a transister not a moduele so for it to perform it has to have both volts and amps and plenty of both to get the stated pwr!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Purchased my V8000 in November, carefully read the manual, programmed it, and all the reports I have received have been very postive. Found it easy to program and have had good quality reports. The four stages of power are real good and the extra power allows me to reach some repeaters that before were hard to bring up. Thinking about buying another and putting it in my mobile.

I just recently got into ham radio. My first radio was the Kenwood TM-G707A. A great little radio. No complaints here about that one. Well I had to buy another radio so I could use it while on the job, and it was a IC V8000. I programmed it and have not had any trouble with it, and all reports from others say its great. Its a great radio and I'll recommend it to any new ham operator as their first radio.

I bought one about three weeks ago to run in only my car and would have to agree with all of the above comments. Quite a wonderful rig with so much power, the front firing speaker is great especially with a soft-top vehicle like mine. Plus its really compact and easy to use. Unbelievable value, I think mine was $179. Buy one!
